The name might be familiar, that's because it's from the same creator and team as Higurashi no naku koro ni, though there is only a small connection between them story-wise. Aside from that, it's a completely different story though again a murder-mystery type situation. There's english patches for the first 4 'games' of this game (it's not all out yet and is being released one arc at a time - though the fourth one and the typical torrent which is usually of the fourth game, came with the first 3 included as well.) but the game itself isn't completely done yet. It's also worth noting it's going to be made into an anime in the near future. I just started today and barely have been on the island a little while (just got to the guesthouse), so far its fine. My favorite character is Maria because she's a moe loli. I'm not really far enough and didn't read enough of the threads before related to it cuz i didnt want to spoil it for myself so i dont really know the characters much at all yet, but yeah. Anyway, the characters are all fine, the art is...well its definitely better than Higurashi's was, and the music is great as expected from dai. The game is technically a sound novel, rather than a 'visual' novel, because it's art is almost ZUN-tier quality - the focus to set the mood is the writing, the sound effects, and most importantly the music. The art is lol, and there is no voice-acting, so it depends on those qualities a lot more than other vn's. As for the connection, it's just two characters that are quite obviously Rena and Miyo from Higurashi. Quote: Bernkastel (ベルンカステル ,Berunkasuteru?) She is also known as the Witch of Miracles, and greatly resembles Rika Furude from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Her name also suggest some connection to Rika's "alter-ego", Frederica Bernkastel. It is said she resides in a world where concepts such as fate and probability can be visualized. She appears to see Beatrice's game to ease her boredom. She assists the player by giving some hints around the workings of the game. Her "Magic of Miracles" allows her to reset a desperate situation as long as the probability of a favorable situation isn't equal to zero. Lambdadelta (ラムダデルタ ,Ramudaderuta?) Another witch who fought Bernkastel in a "game" in the past. Her name and appearance hint at her being connected to Miyo Takano from Higurashi. "Lambdadelta" (λδ) represents thirty-four when using Greek numerals and "Miyo" (三四 ?) can translated as "three, four" in Japanese. Despite that she is quite childish and holds a grudge against Bernkastel for finally beating her in their last game, she actually cares for Bernkastel. She is also known as the Witch of the Absolute and The Most Powerful Witch in the Universe before losing to Bernkastel. She is the most powerful witch next to Bernkastel, and is feared by most other witches, including Beatrice. Her "Magic of Certainty" allows her to kill anyone without fail, as an absolute result. Anyway, it's supposed to be really great, and I don't doubt it will be. Anyone else played through whats out yet?

Story sounds interesting so maybe I will give it a try, certainly have the free time these days. Not very optimistic though, never particularly cared for anything to do with Higurashi. Though, being better than muffin-hands and blobs isnt exactly hard, so that isnt to say the art is good either. But it's not AS detrimental as the horrible art was in higurashi, which was so bad i could never get myself to even try the VN at all and it seems a lot more interesting than Higurashi was evne though im barely into the story at all.

For one, this has probably THE best sound track in any VN (and actually in general, including anime, movies, games, etc), even compared to say Clannad which has an amazing OST as well. dai is really amazing, he made You for Higurashi which is one of my favorite pieces of music ever, so it's not unexpected to me, but really, it's fucking great music. Pretty much every single music track in this game is amazing. And another thing is that this is a really fucking good VN, it's up there with Ever17 which is my favorite currently (though honestly, I think Umineko might take that spot by the time Ryukishi finishes it). It's really damn good. Also, a side thing incase you're still wondering Fuhrer - but the art is a lot better, you really dont notice it as bein bad or anything, even if it bothers you at first you end up getting too into the story to notice that its 'bad' which honestly, i think it's pretty good aside from the hands (which you rarely see anyway and are exponentially better compared to the higurashi ones). One of the many great things about this game is that it keeps you thinking too - I'm only finishing up episode 3 at the moment and i havnt just read a bunch of possible theories, i cant help but keep coming up with more and trying to reason them out and whatnot. For being just a sound novel, it sure gets you involved. Make sure to pay attention to details, even in the beginning slower-ish parts of the episodes, it all matters and all will help you try to figure out what the hell is going on later on. And don't be let down if anything seems obvious or easy to guess - it really isn't. In that area of things, its about as easy to figure out as Ever17 was in the first playthrough - you might think you know whats going on, but you end up realizing you have no idea the further along you get. It's actually mentioned in the story plenty - so she isnt a moe blob am i cute uguuuu or something where its just some silly bullshit to make them cute. It's brought up a lot, especially in episode 2 and later on as well. So it's actually story-relevant that she's kinda retarded. She gets pretty creepy too. And hurry up and get further in! It's good the whole time but it gets a lot better once you get past the intro to the episode (which is long) - you can tell when that is when it does the little montage of the island and the characters (with no text at all) and the entire feeling of it changes. So yeah, those two things along with the writing completely set the entire story and mood constantly. So it's important those be extremely good, and luckily they are. And I think i've said it over 9000 times, but the OST is probably the best I've heard for not just any VN but anything in general. It's really amazingly good. (Also, the entire OST should be in the game files - just in .ogg format) Not only is it great the whole time, like amazingly great - it only gets better the further you get into the game. Young being 23 and under.

They released an audio track thats only about 4 minutes long, but it's got a lot of the voices. From what i remember, it had battler, maria, rosa, george, krauss, and a few others. I forget who but yeah. If I find the link again I'll post it, the voices are pretty bad. Ono D fits Battler but the rest of the cast is so...yeah. They aren't bad seiyuu in general, but at least to me so far they aren't doing these roles well or maybe they just dont suit the characters. For example, uguu/au au au as Maria...well she doesn't talk like normal, so it sounds pretty shitty for her even though you'd expect her to do good as she is a good overall actor...but yeah.
