Without getting into the flamewar on the 501st Legion Yahoo group, pauldrons and their colors denote rank and nothing more. I can't see them being banned for TKs and TXs, and as a CO here, I will NOT ban them for Spec Ops use. Troopers with them look sharp and stand out from the ordinary flood of stormtroopers.

Personally, my opinion is to do what you think makes you look best in the public's eye. In a theoretical Star Wars combat situation, I would very much agree with you.

What would be nice is a custom modified pauldron (with a flap and velcro tab) so you can black out the rank color when in combat operations and fold back the flap (to show the rank color) when not.

I don't think it would be a major modification and it should be possible to commision these JUST for our Spec Ops trooper use.

I also think this would distinguish our Det from all the other specialized 501st Dets.

How does that sound?
