Hey all, I haven't joined the forum yet, but I wanted to pose a question. I've been thinking about how I would do a "Stealth" Trooper for a few months now, and it occured to me that everything I've seen in the real-world that pertains to stealth is as matte black you can get (that is, if it's black to begin with). As with the F-117A Stealth fighter, the matte black paint would screw with any kind of visual detection or radar. If a Stealth Trooper was in a dark hallway or dark room, I don't think glossy armor would help if there was a minimal light source (that light would reflect all over the armor). Not very stealth to me, as least as far as naked-eye detection is concerned. Of course, as per the StarWars.com website, we know it's what the armor is made of that makes it stealth for sensors: "Per his orders, the stormtroopers under his command had their armor cast in black to match his own particular eccentricities. The armor modification had practical benefits as well. The stygian-triprismatic polymer afforded the stormtroopers increased sensor-stealth." ... but it still makes sense for me for the armor to be cast in matte black to help with naked-eye detection. Plus it would make it look more "real military" I think. Your thoughts? |
