I know there are folks who've trimmed their armor, I use foam inside mine to secure it to my arms and legs better so it doesn't slide and pinch. Trimming is totally do-able, just nibble a little at a time and file the cut ends down nice and smooth.  It doesn't take much trimming to get away from the major pinching and gouging.
