Well, I didn't exactly get a direct answer on the topic, but it's an answer (via the Clonetroopers.net board)... "Every costume registered with the 501st and on the website must be a LFL creation. NO fan customs are allowed. The old rumor that "once you have an official costume you can have anything else you want" is only a rumor. If you have legitimate proof that your creation exists in the SW universe it must be provided at the time you present your costume. The costume must be as accurate as possible to the documentation you provide." Hence, the 501st Legion does NOT recognize custom fan-created costumes. This doesn't mean you'll get kicked out of the Det (that will never happen - once a member, always a member). It just means you can't register that custom costume in the Legion (according to the current rules). It is considered an unofficial costume by the 501st, but is welcome at non-Canon events (but you can't claim it's a 501st costume). When in doubt, please refer to your local GML and be prepared to show proof that your costume isn't a custom. Kev |

I know my midnight blue Seatrooper isn't canon (because it's not white), but I'm still the only Seatrooper anyway. MUAHAHAHAHA!!! :ph43r: I also have a Boba Fett and Tusken Raider, which I use for almost every event I attend. I was the original Boba in my Garrison (Midwest), but now there's a bunch of other ones that have popped up, and I primarily use the Tusken now-a-days. The Seatrooper pops up only at heavily Star Wars based events like Celebration. I haven't brought it to Dragon Con yet, but I will... |

Personally my feelings on the cannon etc is taking away from creativity of the fans. Face it we are all fans, even lucas at his award cermony said if it wasn't for the fans the story would of died. That's why personally I agree with the EU it keeps the story going, you know my old CO once said that star wars was dead, honestly it's not we are the ones who keeps it going the fans. What get's me the most about the non custom stuff is when people ask what is with all of these other costume groups popping up all of sudden that are allowing customs. |

That's the reason we decided to be proactive and allow customs in our Det - the first 501st Det to allow and celebrate them. In fact, our own PRO, Erik Ross, has one of the most stunning customs I've seen - a TX Sandtrooper. After the fiasco with the custom mandos within the Legion, enough was enough. There is no need for 50 different splinter groups - and over time the Legion will have to adapt to the changes. So until they catch up - feel free to post your pics and show off your custom TXs here (all EU is welcome). Kev Det Lead |
