I wasn't trying to offend anyone with my post about the Vader shins, sorry if it came off that way ;)

As far as using TK parts... Using the back side of TK forearms won't work becasue they are the wrong shape (they are moulded for the bottom of the forearm). I would suggest if you have the skill that you cut off the dimple part and replace it with a strip of ABS and go that route. As far as the thighs are concerned I think we could get away with using TK thighs (front and back) again cutting off the raised strip down the fron and back also getting rid of the one that goes around the bottom. As far as the cod piece I think we could use a TK one untill either we find something better or are proven wrong... The problem of using TK parts with out modding them is that most of them have raised sections (I had to double check some pics on this) Not only are they accurate for the TK but they also assist in assembling the costume. There will always be some modding to do on any new additions for this armor but I think that starting with TK and TB parts we are well on our way to nailing this down. Keep the ideas flowing and all of us can bounce them back and forth.

So the TK forearms and thighs are more of a 'these will do in the absence of something better' than 'this is the accepted standard'?

If that's the case than I guess I can be happy with that, and work towards something better..
The advantage of the Commando thighs and forearms being smooth is that they could be made from Sintra and simply formed around the arm to make a custom fit for everyone. (same for thigh armour).

Anyone who's made a Fett will probably be familiar with Sintra as it's what most Fetts are made from.
It's cheap, and can often be got as offcuts from sign makers.

Then it's just a case of drawing out templates that will clamshell nicely.
To be extra sure, Added velcro on flightsuit and the insude of the armour will keep it in place?

I would say use what you are familiar with. I have used sintra in the past and found it to be pretty easy to work with even just heating it over the eye of the stove like a caveman. The troopers and fetts seemed to dictate the use of different materials overall because of the amount and shape of their respective armors. ABS delivers the level of detail in troopers (i.e. ridges, dimples, boxes, etc.) However, I think that if there were a time for crossing over, this could be it. I would personally say go for it. Just make sure to post photos to share with the rest of the class :)

Heheh, don't panic.
If I go the Sintra route, pics, templates WILL be posted.

A buddy of mine took some pics of a Storm Commando in SWG.
SWG Storm Commando

It seems that, probably for ease, they just re-colored the Biker Scout.
Ther's no thigh or forearm armour.
It'll help those guys that want to not do the 'extras' above the basic TB in black.
Not sure I like tha though.

I wonder if the PodPlate (local term for the groin armour) is something similar to Vader's cod?

The SWG crew got a little lazy when they put in the commandos and swamp troopers, just repainting the scouts. From the West End Games pic, that cod piece looks like a solid plastic athletic cup, mainly in that it doesn't cover much like the other troopers' do. I will be using a wider piece, as I don't want narrow, pointy plastic catching me off guard when I bend or twist :o .

Sorry I have been away a bit. I will read through this whole forum and post this weekend.

As far as standards, Kev, I posted the StormCommando specs as requested.

There are two versions listed, as both are acceptable for 501st membership at this time.

The A version which is just the standard biker scout, except all black.

The B version which is the elite version., which has the mods.

I came up with the list, but will be happy to update it, per discussions and agreements of the membership.

......
Thighs.
Front only or front and back?
Again the fronts a smooth unlike TK armour.
Could the backs of TK thigh armour work?
......

I think from a practicality standpoint, just the fronts would make more sense (lighter, greater mobility). Also coluld be inferred from the rough/lumpy appearance of the inner thigh area on the WEG pic.

P.S. hi all from a new member!
