I've finally begun work on my Storm Commando I have a black flight suit, which is currently being re-sized to fit me.. (I'm short and fat, so I get one that fits my gut but is too long in the leg...) I'm hoping that TK0282 will come up with the goods on shin armour Meanwhile I thought I'd start on the bits that need more custom work. Gauntlets and Thighs. So, today I started on the gauntlets. It seems that most people use TK ones, but looking at the pics, the Storm Commando has no dimples and is somewhat smoother. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, I resorted to mando tactics ... Sintra (or as I've discovered, in the UK it's called Foamex) So, today I made a trip to several local sign makers to try and scavenge some up. Fortunately I got lucky. |

Materials sorted I went home and began working on design and templates: Step 1 Wrap the forearm in paper and mark where the cutaways need to be to allow wrist and elbow movement, and draw the line where the edges of the upper and lower halves will join. ![]() Step 2 Mark out both sides of the upper gaunt properly, join the lines up. ![]() Step 3 Cut it out, then trace around it for a duplicate.

Step 4 Cut out the duplicate, then put both back around the forearm to make small adjustments. Then carefully remove and study how the gaunt looks. ![]() ![]()

Step 5 Cut the tape down the joining seam and round out the, currently flat edge at the elbow end. ![]() Step 6 Cut the template in half and re-trace for two clear templates. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Anyways it was a quiet night, so with just a little bloodshed, I templated and cut some sintra. I thought I'd take two approaches, one being a simple, upper and lower half clamshell design: ![]() And one being a one piece wraparound: ![]() The main reason behind trying a one piece is this pic: ![]() Which to me, looks like it has no hinges along the longest edge (where my hinge will be) Both pieces are still just rough cut and need tidying and shaping, but it's a headstart I didn't plan on having today. |

Well, providing I don't have too many cockups, I should have enugh spare sintra to make one or two extra sets, and progress will be kept up on here. Update: I just ordered my black ABS Biker Scout Armour from KS... |

Rob, it is looking fantastic. Let us know which pieces you keep vs not of the TB kit. It should be a fantastic combo. (and better than the lily white diaper wearing biker - spoken with EXTREME humor as a biker scout person too!!!) |

Formed the first one-piece gauntlet. Forgot one major thing... Paper is a LOT thinner than 5mm sintra. Consequently the thing is too tight to slide over my hand and clothing. Will re make the template, but with some extra girth. However, ifthere's any girly Storm Commando wannabes out there, I'm sure this one will fit fine. ![]() ![]()

Other than the fact it does not fit, It came out very well i would say. It looks like the reference pics you showed, Funny how paper is thinner huh? Might have to think about getting some of these my self, Only problem is, I have huge forearms.

After the small hickup of making the first gauntlet too big, I now have two correct size gauntlets. (No point in new pics, as they look the same as the one posted. Friday I'll be grinding down the inside edges of the wrist section (so it doesn't shred my flight suit when I slide the gauntlets off, and sanding down the rought edges all around the gauntlets. If time allows I'll primer them too (then you'll get new pics) |

Kool, We need these pics to wet our appetite for more costumes. I still wouldn't mind having a set if you have enough when you are done. I think this is going to be an awesome costume, And I look forward to seeing it completed.

Just to whet your appetites, here's the pics of the first finished vambrace (I really ought to stop calling them gauntlets - Vambrace is the more correct term)![]()

Rob, Looks really good. I may know someone who can use the first ones, Pm me with cost to ship to 64155 if they are not allready spoken for. Keeping pics as you go is a great way to have a tutorial, And others can benifit from it.
