Might i say, you started a fantastic thread here, lots of great info and referances, not to mention the amazing work you have done on your own suit, impressive, most impressive, you may be a Storm Commando yet. ;)

Sintra, i'm going to research it myself but if anyone fills me in on it i would be grateful, i'm looking for other methods for armor building other than Vaccumform molding.
I can sculpt clay rather well and i enjoy it, but making plaster casts and stuff takes much time and is very messy, i would like to avoid it if possible.

How much leeway does the 501st give you as far as weapons go? I've been driving myself nuts trying to determine which weapons to use. From the limited number of pics available it is almost impossible to tell.

I'm sure that the E-11 and DH-17 would be fine. But since special ops work is anything but standard, I wanted to try adding some other non-imperial weapons to my arsenal.

What is everyone else using for storm commando weapons?

Correct me if i'm wrong but you can always amass a large weapons cache and use any of them in non-canon events, its jsut the canon events that you need to be accurate to some form of referance.

Also you'd need them for your 501st application :)

Right.
I'm back underway with this costume!
I've been dawdling too long.

My gloves are on order, I have a new flightsuit on order, my vest has arrived,

Now, Tank Topper and T-Pieces.
Are we strictly Scout or do we have leeway?

I still need to work out how the hell I'm gonna hitch the tank to the back armour, but until then I'm looking at the Tank Topper and the Bicep T-Pieces.

I have two different designs for both components.
(pics attached)

Tank Topper...
Personally I prefer the first one.

T-Piece
Again, I prefer the first one, as it fits the recesses in the armour better.

Now, We now from detail in the movies that the Scouts toppers and T-Pieces were, I think, the first pic (Topper) and second pic (T-Piece), but given that pictures of the Commando are sporadic and open to artistic license is there room for me to use that which I prefer?
Logically given that the armour functions differently, it's not unreasonable for some things to be different despite the outward similarity?

Anyways.
Which of the two should I use?

(I'll post up later on asking how to fix the tank to the armour)

Thanks

Hey Nocturne,

That looks like a KS tank....I'm still having issues with mine. I contacted them and they sent me an e-mail with suggestions on how to mount it. I just haven't had the time to try them.

I cheated.

I followed a suggestion from FLY_JEDI on how to do the tank.

I put a pair of metal L brackets and riveted them to the back piece, and then riveted the TOP of the tank to the other part of the bracket. It wasn't easy, since you have to fit your hand and rivet gun under the tank piece while still holding it tight. In fact it took two people to do it. When I attach the tank topper--the rivets will be hidden.

Then I used two additional rivets instead of one on the bottom of the tank to secure it to the back. I'll paint those black, and when I polish it up, no one will see it.

:) I really need to post my WIP pictures this weekend. I've got most of the arm pieces done and polished, the back piece assembled, and am starting on the front pieces and belt this weekend. I've also got my flight suit and am modifying that. Boots and helmet are on order, but I have to wait for the gloves --they are out of stock on small ones for my tiny hands!

Please do post progress pics. I know a lot of folks picked up this armor during Atin's last run and it's always good to share knowledge with others. :)

Thighs.
Now the WEG commando shows frontal armour, with straps around the back (you can see the strap indents in the flightsuit)

I'm a lazy bastid at heart, so didin't fancy doin the whole make a new template from scratch like I did with the vambraces.

Fortunately I'd seen some german commandos wearing riot armour on their thighs. Now I know this isni't cannon because of the strap configuration. But the visual effect is about right.
Again, fortunately, I own a set of riot armour. SO the pattern was readilly at hand for me, I just needed to trace aroung my existing armour.

The image below is a right thigh plate.

Once cut out I had something like this

Then I progressed onto a pair

Hopefully I'lll have time to get the wok of doom out and start shaping them.

Actually, I've been thinking.

Instead of riveting, could I use a 2-part epoxy glue (like Araldite) to save punching holes in my armour?
(And reduce the risk of expensive cockups - like holes in the wrong place)

It would also remove the need for a rivet at the bottom of the tank where it can't be covered up.

I had originally considered glue myself, the only problem with it is that it can warp the plastic if you use the wrong kind. I don't know how epoxy and ABS react to each other.
