Sorry for my lack on knowledge of Empire jargon, but I have come to love the Black Stealth Trooper outfit. I mean, golly, probably the most menacing looking outfit of them all besides Darth, but I am not interested at this time to shell out big dollars for that. I have seen so many pictures of the Stealth Troopers through this site that I am downright impressed with the work put into these things. I have read some topics about the Stealth Trooper costume and have been brought up to speed on what's expected should I decide to join to 501st, but I have some burning questions in mind. First of all, I have done some personal search and can't find anything that is of black ABS that resembles the Stormtrooper in black. The way I am looking at it, it doesn't look like I could slap on some black paint over the all white Stormtrooper costume and call it a TX automatically. So what am I to do? One guy suggested to me that to put some coats of paint in different stages (he was in detail over it) and would take a total of four months (12 weeks) for a Stormtrooper to be converted to the TX. Anybody else got anything to add or comment on painting to conversion? I hate to say it, but I am like a baby learning to walk in my new interest into becoming a TX. All info regarding to this is great! I appreciate the support so far and look forward to meeting some of you guys later. Have a nice evening. |

Welcome to the Det! Personally, I wouldn't paint a set of armor black - not even with Krylon Fusion - it'd be a nightmare to keep the nicks and scratches covered from event to event and it's bound to chip when the parts clink together or rub while in costume. I wish I could point you in the direction of a current producer of Stealth Trooper armor, but I actually had to get mine off of eBay (years ago). Let me see if I can nail down a reliable supplier. In a pinch, you can use the smooth side of black haircell, but I don't know if it'd come out well. |

Just thought about this, and just tell me what to think about it. What about those get togethers that others go to make costumes? I am sure if somebody had the Black ABS material and the vacuming machine to make the black stealth trooper, it could be done right? Let me know. I would be willing to drive for one of those things. Take care. |
