So i'm opting for the silver lenses (see master replicas bucket for ref) and was wondering if you guys knew what the best process would be for finding / cutting them? I've been up and down ebay looking for a cheap pair of snowboarding goggles with a mirror finish but am hesitant to buy thinking that it might look wrong. Any ideas? |

grab some flat lenses and bring them to a "pimp my ride" like store, ask them to put the mirror film and you're ready to go. |

haha that's exactly the same thing I thought - I considered the auto shops and the only ones around me are pepboys and firestone lol. I've read that some people were able to grab some tinting film from walmart, and i saw what they had - the rolls go for around $10 each but the only ones that were in stock were varying degrees of smoke color (presumably to keep people from buying mirrored tinting, applying it, and getting ticketed lol) I've seen rolls for chrome tinting on ebay for $25+shipping but it's 20"x25' and that's MUCH too long.. so .. I'll keep looking! |

This is something I want to do on my bucket. Here's an option: if no one can find a better deal, and what we need can only be found on eBay or mailorder, and is a bit costly, we can take a list of who wants in and split the cost for a roll. We obviously don't need a lot (though I would suggest enough for 4 lenses in case you make a mistake), so we can take a count and see what can be found to cover it. Thoughts? |

Wow! I didn't think I'd get so many responses so fast. Guess I better get ta searchin'! LOL! txshifty, if you still have the links you saw let me know or please post them. This is what I've found so far, what does everyone think... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHROME-MIRR...sspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WINDOW-FILM...sspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WINDOW-TINT...sspagenameZWDVW These look to be the right % and of course the longer the roll the more $. In figuring out how much we'd need, I'm looking at each lens to measure 4.5" x 2". So a 5"x5" square should cover it. Plus I suggested 2 squares in case you mess up. That's 5"x10". Using the first auction (yes I'm thinking out loud) that's about 96 5"x10" squares or .50 cents a piece. Give or take. |

Nolak, has anyone tried to tint just clear lenses then or our darker colored ones yet to check our visibility. i am curious because I am currently locating mirrored sunglasses and grinding the lens down to match ANH an FX helments. |

Not that I'm aware of. I haven't heard anyone having clear lenses since what's normally available for our buckets are either the smoke or green lenses. Starting with clear will probably give you better visability but I don't know how it'll be looking in. I'm guessing the mirror will block anyone from seeing your eyes better than the smoke but I have seen mirrored sunglesses where I was able to see the persons eyes behind them. Tinting the smoked lenses will definately inhibit that. I am very interested tho to see how yours come out. Have you been able to find mirrored lenses large enough to cover the bucket eye openings? Btw, I've gotten 4 replies plus myself for going in on the roll. I've been holding off on buying it just to see if there are any more replies. Most likely what I'll do is buy the roll and cut off squares and hold the rest of the roll for others that may speak up later on. I just got my flat lenses yesterday so I would say by the end of the week Ill pick up the roll and update everyone then.

No Nolak, I am currently still in the experiment stage on the sunglasses. I was just curious as to whether anyone has tried. Being somewhat visionally challenged (wear glasses) I was just wondering how dark the tint makes visibility with current lenses. As for the mirror tint, you can count me in also. I am just curious if it would work better to use the green with the mirror or the smoke. Sorry but I play a lot of paintball and have found that mirror on clear works quite well in the daylight and night time. Am wondering if the pressent tints might be effected by such considerations. |
