Lenses! I'm going to go the Snow goggle route with this. What i'm thinking is i'll build the face plate so it clips in around the goggles (so then i can use the goggles for otehr things as well) It also means i can buy different lenses (slivered) for around $25 and easily swap between the two. The silvered lenses they had were so clear to look through, you couldn't even tell there was a tint, very nice indeed. This was a test to see how the lenses photographed, pretty happy with it, unless someone stuck the camera right in my face i should be good. ![]() The bucket build is still a ways off, i'm waiting for my Rubies bucket to show up so i have some hands on referance to build from. Just stocking up on the materials early. This all, of course, could fail miserably hopefully not

Thanks Andy, i'm excited to have it done too. Sorry, no pictures today, i forgot the camera. Didn't get as much done today, worked on the back hump and i tried to hammer a flat sheet of metal into a shoulder pad, i got half-ways there, but wasn't able to get the metal to curve further, didn't have the right tools. So, i made the flat sections of the back hump and welded them on the back plate. Tomorrow i will go searching for some sort of metal tanks that i can cut down and use for shoulder pads and that back hump. I could use metal bowls i think. Once i have the back hump and shoulders finished, i will be waiting on my Rubies bucket to show up so i can work from that. If it hasn't shown up by the time i'm done with the other parts of the costume i'll either start on the speeder bike, or i'll see about getting the soft parts of the costume worked on. Still struggling with the final paint job. The digital camo is cool, but i think i'd need to enlarge the pattern a bit so its not so "busy". If i can dedicate the armor to our troops, then i'd want to go desert camo, but i think i like the urban camo better... aaaaaahhhhh the desert digital isn't quite right, color is off. Please! Give me your thoughts on the matter

Myself, I'd go with the desert. Just use the three color desert camo and call it good. THe fact that you are making it and dedicating it to them over there means more to them than whether the color scheme is dead-on or not. Just my two credit's worth! Excellent work, so far, Daniel! - Bill |

I'm right there with you Bill, really i feel like it doesn't even scratch the surface on what to do to thank our boy and girls over there. Maybe if i can get it dedicated and all that, i could start doing a sort of personal fund raiser for something like the Wounded Warrior Project http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ Not sure how that meshes with the fund raising goals of our garrison and the 501st, since those are more focused on raising funds for children, i'd need to talk with the GL's and stuff. I like the traditional desert camo look too, more of a retro guy myself in some ways. |

Grrreat Success
Today i got the back hump finished and the shoulder pads done, AND i got my Rubies helmet in the mail today, exciting, it will be a great reference to work from while building mine out of metal. These things are plenty big though, why does it always seem that the ones in the films look smaller? Anyways, great day, clean up will take a while but everything is built except for the bucket and tank top bits.

Bwahaha, heres the helmet, lots of good progress i think. The pictures sure do distort it. Still need to do all the clean up on it. I'm going to do the second piece that goes around the lens with plastic, so i don't scratch the snow goggles.

Thanks Andy, I think i need to shorten up the visor a bit and maybe lengthen then snout. I need to reshape the cheeks a little, right now they're a little chubby. Yeah, it's a bit on the heavy side, but like you said, good work out It's really not as bad as you might think. the buckets probably the heaviest part lol, that might be an issue, we'll see.
