Force-Sensitive Trooper; Stormtroopers with lightsabers!

Hail Imperials!

My name is Jason Ellenburg and I am very interested in joining the 501st. While I am not yet a member, I have a question regarding the feasibility of a Trooper idea. It is a Force-Sensitive Trooper (Lightsaber Trooper)

As an avid collector of Star wars, this idea was first encountered in some of the RPG source material (Star Wars Adventure Journal and others) and I feel it may be worth trying.

First of all, it is a "dual costume." I was already informed that it is easier to get in with a "cannon" suit than with a specific design, so I will be purchasing and forming a TK suit once my budget allows (between now and January). With that as a base for entrance, I plan on doing a slight "costume" modification which will turn a normal stormtrooper into something more...

This something more is a little known story about one of the Emperor’s pet projects. It involves training Force-Sensitive Stormtroopers as his personal guard (beyond the Crimson Guard). Well, my idea would involve a set of stormtrooper armor as well as a little special thing dangling from my belt…

I might be able to cross it (with a blaster rifle) as a normal TK if needed, but also something a little different. Such as adding a white cowling and cape (something like Vader meets ARC Commando) and entering myself into your group.

I’d like to know what you think. Would it be feasible or not? If nothing else, I could just be a normal TK, but the idea of a Lightsaber-wielding Stormtrooper seems to resonate with something dangerous.

It does have visual links (which I was told would help) in both the picture above from one of the Star Wars Insider magazines (EU) and one of the concept drawings for Ep.IV (Cannon). But, it still depends upon what you and the "higher-ups" within the 501st say. I would like to ask what you think, before even attempting this.

Finally, I am wondering where you would suggest for obtaining a set or kit of Stormtrooper armor. I’d prefer it unweathered, as that would give it more of the “can’t tough this” look of a Force-Sensitive Stormtrooper but also a pristine parade-look for trooping. Beyond that, I look forward to joining your ranks.

For the Empire!

I would first suggest getting a regular Stormtrooper approved, then move into this. It's the same costume, just with the specialized saber. It's your best bet, but I can check with the LMO and see if he'll approve it as a TX (as it is EU and rightfully falls under us). Welcome aboard, and shoot me your location in the US and I'll hook you up with your local Garrison.

As far as armor, I can only openly suggest eBay. PM me and I can probably get you a better deal.

Well, I was told that it takes three sources to get a costume approved. Well, this may help with anyone else who wants to try for this.

1)
The story A Two-Edged Sword which was featured in Star Wars Insider 85 by Karen Traviss. It features cloned Force-Sensitive Stormtroopers wielding lightsabers.

2)
The concept picture for the Stormtroopers as drawn by McQuarrie for A New Hope.

3)
The McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper action figure which I recently found in my local Fred Meyers as a re-release of the Fan's Choice collection.
