The only objection I have to it is that we don't have any sort of info on exactly what the money goes towards. I know we nabbed this Idea off the 501st forums, but they had a set amount of money they needed, and for what purpose, and didn't accept any more than that. I believe we need to take the same path, or else this might not be a very good idea, money going to a non-profit organization can get messy, and I just have the interests of the Legion in mind. |

Actually we nabbed it off the other Legion Dets, like Clonetroopers, net, who've been supported for years by the exact same donation structure. It was just spurred by the 501st Legion forum idea and I thought it's a good idea to have the forums grow supported by the members vs out of my pocket all of the time as it's been the last several years. This way, we keep the domain name, site and forums, even if I don't have the money to do it all by myself. And it's not going to be up there forever - it's just a once a year deal until we reach enough to make the improvements. Here's what I've used the donations for thus far: Renew domain name for 2 years: $19.16 from GoDaddy Kill forum ads: $30.00 from InvisionFree Domain forwarding to web page: $10/year I still need to pay for: $249 IP.Board/Gallery/Blog - http://www.invisionpower.com/community/purchase.html and a web host. Like I said, it's a strictly voluntary system and nobody's forcing you to give a dime. All money is going towards improving the site, like a lot of people here have said they want, including you. It costs money to implement improvements like galleries, better forum software, and web hosting. Thanks to several members who've dug into their pockets, these improvements are happening and all members gain from their generosity. And like I said, if there's anything left over, the supporters will vote on how to dispurse the excess funds. But it's not like we raised $1200 like the Legion either. More like $122, which is 1/2 way to the $249 + $25/6 months for the combined hosting package I've been looking at). Heck, the forum software is $300 ( http://www.invisionpower.com/community/board/purchase.html ), which is why we've stayed on the free service (but paid to keep the ads off). We don't need much to keep the site going, but we do need help and I sincerely thank all of you who've stepped up to the plate. Kev DL |

We've got $145, still a bit to go to our dream forum/hosting solution. I know a few other Dets have banded up for a combined solution, but it's more expensive and requires one guy to do all the mods for all three Dets. I think we're on target. It's a bad time of year to ask for donations, and I hope things improve after the New Year. Cool thing is, we're still working towards a goal and I'm thankful for everyone who's donated thus far. I have no issues spending my own money to make up the slack, but I just won't have that kind of money for a few weeks. I have no fear that we'll hit our goal and we have a lot of web-talented people who can help out. I think we're growing to the point we should have a web team anyways.

I Just paypal'd some funds to help out a little (bacta-work@hotmail.com) I've got a couple projects I'm trying to finish at the moment which should help me out with a sizable budget to donate more and pick up all the 501st related merch I've been wanting to get. It's true, things can get really tight financially this time of year. |

Thank you guys. I'll tally up the funds and see where we are, but I think we're there, if not very close, so I pulled the Donation button code. I'll work on getting everything transitioned in February. I think the new software and hosting plan will make a big difference. Hopefully we can just import the forum dB. Kev DL |

I've got a decent hosting package nailed down with forums, blog, and photo gallery, but I'm waiting to chat with VPier to see if we might ba able to latch on to their combined hosting and single sign-on (if possible). I'm waiting for them to finish with the CT.net mass user deletion issue, but we'll see what we can do. Either way, we'll have a lot better web capabilities for the Det this year (thanks to the Donators), so stay tuned. Kev |
