Well, I finally got around to taking some pictures on this. I've gotten the arm pieces done, and modified the flightsuit. I am working on the chest and back pieces--they are spread accross my work table at the moment. After that I am doing the knees, belt, and holster, and I'll be done. I'm getting a KS helmet that's on it's way, and boots from BSN. The trimming and polishing is what is taking me the longest. This abs is really thick! http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/firsttest.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/2ndtest.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/tanktopper.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/armpieces.JPG |

LOL, I can't say that I've made much progress recently, except for new parts arriving. I got my gloves, and a hyperfirm scout blaster (oh so nice!), and my helmet kit is in, so now I just have to find time to put it all together. If I get lucky, I'll be able to post pictures of the chest pieces on Sunday night. |

YAY! Got my helmet from KS over the weekend. It's the kit so I need to put it together myself. Its a bit daunting, but I am using a tutorial a friend wrote that's really helping. I started trimming it last night--only 1 scraped knuckle and 1 cut finger this week. I'm getting my battle scars from this costume before I even wear it. I also picked up one of MC's black holsters to go with the kit I bought from another maker. It's really nice! Almost done, and it should be ready by January 5th for an event. Pictures soon! |

Finally! Progress. I got my helmet done, except for a liner. http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/finhelmet.JPG I also have the belt about 50% done, an the holster and hope to finish the belt tomorrow. The whole outfit is just missing the boots and cummberbund which are in progress.

;-) Thanks Kev! I was a little afraid of the helmet kit at first. I just had to take my time. I learned a lot from it. I finished up the chest pieces today. Being female and overweight presented a challege on the chest pieces, so I had to position them differently and modify them for a larger frame. I had larger gaps to cover at the shoulders. I'm pretty happy with it, but am going to tweak it here and threre. Can you PM me the boots supplier info? I'm also working on a shadow scout, and one concern I have with the tutorials is that I want it to be able to support the holster. Not sure if there's a pre-fab'd out there, and I've seen a few makers of the boots (though, sort of pricey). Thanks, Rob |

Looking good! If you don't mind me asking what have you been using to trim the armor? I have been using the "snap" method but like you said tihis is some thick ABS. Just wondering because your armor looks good and clean. I've never had to trim so I am have been looking at how others have done this. Once again great looking armor! Can't wait to get started on mine.

I tried the score/snap method and darn near ruined the shoulder bells because I was having a hard time controlling it. I put several deep scratches in that I had to buff out. After that, I purchased a diamond wheel cutter for my dremel. Cost me about $16. I used that to rough cut, and then used rough and fine sanding drums on the dremel. After that I used a nail file to further smooth edges, and after that some extra fine sanding blocks. To get the "shine" I literally polished 3 different ways. First with Novus 3 to remove any heavy scratches/pitting, then with Novus 2. After that I used Turtle Wax "Diamond" car wax and buffed it for a long time. The shine is great! I know to look "stealthy" there is a disagreement of opinion that it should be matte, but shiny works for me. Thanks for the feedback folks! I plan to wear it for the first time this Saturday and will take pictures of the whole set up so I can formally apply as a TX.YAY! |

And we'll be proud to have you amongst our ranks! Great detailing instructions too. I also use the diamond cutting wheel on my Dremel and just use a flexible sanding block to smooth the edges. And a secret shine trick is as always, to use the Mr. Clean magic eraser to buff out small scratches. You have to do it wet, but it works miracles on most all armor. kev |

FINISHED! Not only is it finished, but I've already been out for my first troop in the whole setup. Yikes, it was so comfortable to wear. My other costume is a Royal Guard, whch is terribly hot... Here's some pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=21...48401971&size=l http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=21...48401971&size=l http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/fullscout1.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/fullscout2.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/fullscout3.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/fullscout4.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/fullscout5.JPG http://www.geocities.com/triplecandd/fullscout6.JPG I submitted it to my GML today, but am now putting it forth for Kev to take a look at as well. |
