Here's what the plan is, according to the LCO...

On December 20th a mass email will be sent to the membership instructing them that the elections will commence on January 1st with open nominations for all elected offices. A link to the specific forums for each unit will also be given and the member will be instructed to check to make sure their access is correct and functional. All active members will have access to the Legion election forums. All active members will have access to their respective assigned unit (Garrison or Outpost). All members assigned to a squad will be given access to their respective squad forum. Members of Detachments, if clearly defined by the upcoming elections, will be given access to all Detachments they are deemed (via the census) to be an active participant in.

On January 1st a second mass email will be sent out (with any previous corrections made) announcing nominations are being accepted for each office. These nominations will be submitted via an on-line form similar to our feedback and event request forms. These submissions currently go to the entire Legion Command staff. This will not apply to Legion elections. Those nominations will continue to be made openly on the Legion forums. For all non-Legion nominations, the nominator will not be listed, just the nominee. This is to avoid any retribution against anyone or favoritism towards anyone for their nomination. The COG will be responsible for posting the names of all non-Legion nominees in their respective threads.

On January 14th another mass email will go out advising that the nomination period is closed. All respective nomination threads will be locked at that point. Q&A threads should be created at that time for each nominee on the local forums. If a unit wanted to hold their Q&A on the Legion forum in their private election forum, I presume that would be okay as well. Legion offices will have their Q&A threads on the Legion forums as usual. Any unit receiving no nominations will be contacted and the current elected officers advised to retain their posts for another year. For these units there will be no further activity in their dedicated elections forum and their particular forum will be closed and locked.

On February 1st a mass email will be sent out stating that the voting period has begun. The previously included links will once again be given to direct each member to their respective polling threads.

A final reminder email will be sent on February 13th explaining that all polls will close at midnight the evening of 14th.

A further note is Legion Merchandising Officer is no longer a elected position. By the narrowest vote I've seen in a while, the LCO now picks the merch. officer.

Your vote counts. If you haven't registered on the Legion forums, please do so ASAP. If you haven't registered with our Det as a member, PM me ASAP with your full name, TX-ID (you must be a TX), and Garrison.

It's important that we have as many voting members as possible.

Kev, do you know if this email was sent? If it was, I never got it.

But then, I have problems receiving any blast emails from the main site.

:P

A personal question, if I may--and if you're not ready to discuss it, I understand.

Are you going to run for LCO again this year?

The 20th email hasn't been sent - the web team is having some issues, but I suspect it'll go out soon. So I just disseminated this from my GXO (as we're technically a Detachment under the Mountain Garrison).

And yes, I'll be running once again for 501st Legion Commander. Hopefully I'll do a better job getting the word out this year. ;)

Cool! I appreciate it.

I've started a web page for my 2008 LCO run: http://kchristley.googlepages.com/kevinchristleyforlco

Let's see if I can rally the troopers this year. :)

I sent Albin and email this morning letting him know my intentions and to request his blessing to run (it's respectful, seeing that he started the Legion). We'll see how it goes.

On January 1st (00:01:01 EST [GMT -5]), the 2008 elections for all elected offices in the Legion will begin. First, you must be registered on the 501st Legion forums to nominate officers and to vote - EVEN IN YOUR LOCAL ELECTIONS. If you are not registered already, please visit www.501stforums.com and sign up with the e-mail address you provided to your GML at the time of the last census.

In the menu on the left side, you will see a link to the 2008 elections area:

http://www.501stforums.com/elections2008/

From there, you may submit nominations for the offices of the groups you belong to. Each nominee, that nominee's unit leader, and Legion Command staff will receive an e-mail to notify them of the nomination. Each nominee will need to be seconded before being placed on the ballot. The nominee may then accept or decline the nomination. NOTE: if your current CO intends to run for office again, he or she should be nominated and seconded, even if there is no apparent challenger!

Note also that nominations can be accepted or declined before a second is received, but the acceptance will not count until there is a second. A declined nomination will be effective immediately.

All nominations are anonymous. No one will know who nominated whom through this utility.

Once the nomination period ends (January 15, 2008 at 23:59:59, EST [GMT -5]), each Garrison, Outpost, Squad, and Detachment will be responsible for conducting the question-and-answer period on their OWN FORUMS. Candidates for Legion Commanding Officer will have their Q&A session conducted on the Legion forum as usual.

(Please note that the office of Merchandise & Branding Officer is NO LONGER AN ELECTED POSITION according to a recent Charter amendment)

Voting will begin on February 1, 2008, 00:01:00 EST. The ballot will be presented to each member through the Legion forum, and will be the only vote considered valid. Voting will end February 14, 2008 at 23:59:59 EST.

A summary:

- Submit anonymous nominations through the Legion forum (January 1, 00:01:00 EST - January 15, 23:59:59 EST).
- Second, accept, and decline nominations from the Legion forum (before January 15, 23:59:59 EST).
- Garrisons, Outposts, Squads, and Detachment create special areas for questions from members to candidates (January 16, 00:00:00 EST - January 31, 23:59:59 EST).
- Vote at the Legion forum (beginning February 1, 00:01:00 EST).

If you do not see a unit listed that you believe you are a member of (for example, Detachments), please send that unit leader an e-mail requesting access, with a copy to Legion Data Droid Darren Blum (501st@blums.net).

Submit all other questions, comments, and concerns to the Legion Captain of the Guard (crimson@omegawing.net).

Thanks to those who nominated and seconded my run for LCO as well as Spec Ops Det Lead! It'll be a fun race and it's a job I take very seriously. Bob Gouveia and I PM'd each other congratulations (Bob's always been a good friend and is a great guy), so it's off to a great start!

Also, a fellow Spec Ops Det members Reaper is running for Pike Peak Squad Lead in the Mountain Garrison, and Luis Carazo (our esteemed Detachment Captain of the Guard) is running for Costa Rican Outpost Leader. I sincerely wish you all the very best and hope you win!

Go TX's!

The nomination period is over and Spec Ops Detachment Leadership remains unchanged as all members of the staff were unopposed.

Thanks for participating and we'll have some good things coming your way in 2008!
