I'm 6'1", so that's my median.
How long are your shins? That would be the only tricky thing.--Jonah |

I need a digital camera. I have taken WIP pics, but need to wait for the film to get developed. *heh* --Jonah |

If you're 6'1 how easy would they be to trim to fit a short-ass like me (5'6")? |

Well, as with the Scout armour, the soft parts involved make it easier. The chest and back plates only come down about as far as the Scout, so you can make adjustments with the cummerbund. The thighs are easily-trimmable half-plates with straps around the back. Again, the biggest issue will probably be in the greaves. I'm saving that headache for last. I may end up just doing all the easily-pullable stuff and sending it out, and then doing one-offs for each set of greaves to match everyone's shin/calf measurements. But I'll burn that bridge when I come to it. --Jonah |

Wondering the same thing. I'm currently putting my Stealth Scout (or whatever we are calling it) together and was thinking how much the full Storm Commando would rock. |

My apologies for my long silence. Part of it was being away for the entire months of August and November this year. Part of it is the hassle of continuing domestic demands as I work on getting my life back on track. And part of it is, truthfully, because I hadn't been feeling particularly enthusiastic about coming back to this board since my disagreements with one of the members. I haven't wanted to expose myself to further acrimony. But since he's over on my "home" board (Royal Guards) doing the same thing whenever he can, I figured what the heck... I've been negotiating for use of Jango, Biker Scout, and Vader parts from other makers that I could use as a basis for modding into the similar parts on this. (It's easy to get permission, give credit, and work out conditions/costs. For the life of me, I can't grasp why recasters don't do this.) I've been working on foam sculpts of the breastplate, codplate, bicep, and forearm. The handplate and sabaton were simple and easy. I'm doing all right-side stuff. I have a rapid-prototyping setup nearby owned by an old family friend, and should be able to scan, mirror, and recreate the pieces in stereo. *heh* Pictures soon. My working areas haven't been very photogenic since midsummer. I'll also post my patterns for the pouch and cummerbund. Sidenote: The same bodysuit, gloves, and neckseal you use for your TK or TX is used for this costume. The boots are TK boots, but in black. For sidearms, I'm using a mostly ROTJ E-11 on the right and a Merr-Sonn Model 44 on the left. Personal sidenote: I can't wait to troop in this next to Jen in her Shadow Scout (I still use that term to distinguish between the two versions). I've been having fun upgrading her Scout costume a piece at a time, and when she gets her new armour, her existing harc pieces are getting painted black. Probably going to add the DLT-19A sniper rifle to that one. ![]() --Jonah P.S. Edited the thread title to be less argumentative. Edited by Peregrinus, Dec 7 2008, 12:29 AM.

Any further movement on this armor interest thread? Haven't seen any posts for the last 6 months... would be interested in the non-TB pieces. I have a standard shadow scout (black TB style TX) for 501st canon events... but I'm working on my own variation of a TX that would be similar, but with glossy black jango thighs, jango shins, and jango spats... with glossy black TK-style forearms and hand plates over tk-style gloves. Have the forearms and hand plates in hand... waiting on the custom glossy black Jango armor as we speak. A few questions: 1) The glossy black codpiece is quite a problem - as I have NO idea who might make one. Anyone have spare TX gear they'd sell for scrap? All I need is the codpiece part. Would a Jango cod work? 2) Was going to do left side E11, and right side as a SE-14r, same style holster but obviously shorter. So dual holstered, losing the ankle holster, the biker blaster, and TB-style boots. Thoughts? 3) Was also thinking about securing the leg armor with strong earth-magnets or straps *inside* the jumpsuit. Thoughts? Here's my SE-14r. ![]() AJ (TK#2399, TX in process). |

Surprised you can wear the black Scout at canon events, as that's an EU costume, too. ![]() Sorry for the lack of updates, though. I'm trying to find places to do forming and rotocasting in my area, since I have no real shop space. Until then, I've been doing some sculpting, but there hasn't been much urgency. I haven't posted pics of any of my progress because the pink foam I use doesn't really show any definition. All you'd see was a bunch of pictures of pink blobs until I get to teh finishing stage where I use Bondo and other glazing compounds to get the finished surface on.Your solutions sound pretty good for the interim, including the butchered TK cod. The boots of the original Commando were black Stormtrooper boots. I'm gonna be going with the exact original chelsea boots, and just not paint them white -- but they're about $200 a pair, and not everyone is as much a costuming lunatic as I am. You didn't mention chest or back or soft parts, though. What were your plans there? A TK bodysuit would be more accurate, as the Commando is form-fitting, not Scout-loose. Same with the gloves. The pouches are bigger, too. And the breastplate is neither TK nor TB in style. I like your idea of the SE-14R. I'm going to be using a Merr-Sonn Model 44 as my sidearm, because the pistol in the original illustration -- indistinct as it is -- clearly doesn't have a scope. I've also since revised my approach to the main weapon. I'll be using a DH-17 with an E-11's folding stock, and probably a different scope, but the details and description (blaster carbine) would seem to support that more than a regular blaster rifle. For securing the armour, take a look over at The Dented Helmet, in the Jango section, for how they secure their straps. But the original illustration shows the straps going around the outside of the leggings, so... So, yeah. Still cranking, but economic stress has real-life sort of dominating my life right now. I'd much rather be working on all my costuming stuff, but it's hard to focus and distract myself from money concerns. --Jonah |

I'll buy parts as soon as they come available... especially the cod piece! I'm already saving =) Surprised I, as registered TX2399 can go to 501st canon events? I suppose I haven't actually yet... but the EU (expanded universe) seems to be included in the 501st rules forum - "games, books, etc" below? "C. FORMAL/CANON - Costumes must be accurate, authentic-looking Imperial or denizen costumes from the movies or licensed media (games, books, etc.). Costumes must be devoid of stickers, ornamentation, or any other decoration not found on the original costumes. Costumes must be complete, containing all parts in good working order and appearance (unless item is supposed to be worn or deteriorated). If a member has a question whether his or her costume meets the specifications of a formal/canon costume, they should refer to the Costume Reference Library (CRL) information for the costume, or contact their GML..." Last I checked, General Weir was referenced in licensed Lucasfilm media - and is at least one form of the TX =) But that's probably a religious war I don't want to get into... -AJ |

TX's are allowed at 501st Canon events, except for Disney SWW (dunno why they don't allow EU, but it's their show). Anyone who tells you different can argue it with me - our members do events all the time. The only time EU is not welcome is when the event organizers specifically ask for just movie characters. I'd even suggest then that you show a pic of your costume and that we are part of the Star Wars universe (in the comics and video games). Kev |
