The question has come up whether the FISD or our Det should handle this costume. The FISD handles movie-canon costumes and the TX Det handles EU Trooper costumes, so category-wise, it appears to be ours. Personally, I feel it's a simple TK repaint and addressed this with the FISD leadership when the figures were released. But members here feel it's EU (which it is), so should belong to our Det. My issue is that I can see both points. On one hand, I don't wish to see our Detachment branding become diluted. We are the EU Specialized Trooper Detachment. On the other hand, this is not a specialized operations costume. It's an early EU Stormtrooper commander with a simple repaint. I'd like an honest discussion about this so the leadership can decide based upon how the members feel. Either way is fine, just keep it civil and we'll decide together. Kevin |

IMHO ALL EU troops should have a TX before their Legion ID. |

Unfortunately they have to be EU and Special Operations troops (outfitted for a specific purpose or task), which is what we've historically owned. The Stormtrooper Commander is just that, a commander of Stormtroopers. Giving up this and the white red-striped Stormtrooper from The Force unleashed still leaves us with both Black TKs as well as the EVO Trooper and Imperial Jumptrooper, so even if you feel we lost a bit of ground, we still get four new costumes from the game under our Detachment. I felt it was a fair and equitable trade-off, even though yes, they might have been ours as well. But I really don't feel they're different enough from a regular TK to justify fighting it as hard as I would for the Black TKs. Kev |

Honestly, it was a very tough call that I struggled with greatly. It was a long and hard journey to get our Detachment legitimized in the eyes of the Legion at the time, taking well over a year. Because of this struggle to reach our identity, I, like you, felt that we are "the EU Det". Then Flagship Eclipse arrived on the scene as the EU Sith Lord Det, which I was at first very concerned that our territory was being encroached upon, especially when they migrated from EU Sith Lords and into other EU territories. That's when together, we agreed that we'd retain control of EU Trooper costumes, and not all of EU. It was a good move and I still stand by it today. When costume possibilities arose from TFU, several Dets were interested (and I believe they'll get some possibilities from it). In order to keep some peace within the Legion, it was neccessary for us to agree on a happy medium. The happy medium being we, the Spec Ops Det, is primarily responsible for EU Special Operations Trooper costuming. I was, and still am concerned that our branding is at risk by giving up any EU Trooper and I'm willing to fight to the end for our members, no matter what the consequences are to me personally. As you may already be aware, I can very quickly become the 800lb gorrilla in a room and have a bad reputation because of it. It doesn't mean I'm a loose cannon or a jerk - it's because I really, truly care about this Detachment and the wishes and needs of it's members. If that means some in the Legion consider me an a-hole, so be it. But I fight for what I believe in and know is right. And in this case, while I was willing to fight, it simply wasn't right. We get 4 out of 6 new Trooper costumes by working together with the FISD. It's an olive branch to them and the opportunity for us to become better in the process. Are the new costumes easy? No, two of them are brand new and will have to be created from scratch. But I also believe that as a Detachment, we have the most creative group of members in the Legion. We care enough to break the mould on what the Legion's norm thinks should be in the Legion and I proudly wear my TX in any defiance towards what is and isn't considered film canon. In the end, I think we've been given an opportunity to shine and the FISD has been given the opportunity to break their mould on film-based costuming, much to the chagrin of some of their membership who feel these new costumes are a threat. It's a win-win for both of our Dets and it helps further EU costuming within the Legion. That's never a bad thing and I hope now you can understand the deliberations and detent that led to my thinking on this topic. Kev DL |
