The CRL listing consists of three categories: 1. “A [costume] must have… (These are required for 501st membership)” 2. “A [costume] should have… (These are recommended, but not required)” 3. “A [costume] may have… (These are accepted, but not required)” What a costume must have is essentially "the bar". It is the bare minimum. To qualify, a costume must meet these essential elements. What a costume should have is more where we would like the bar to be. Costumes are encouraged to meet these standards, but will not be denied if they do not. An example of this might be a wrist comlink on a TIE pilot costume. While they are definitely a part of the costume, the absence of one may not be so detractive as to prohibit someone from being admitted into the Legion over it. Generally speaking I think most costumers would gladly meet these higher requirements if they knew what they were. So we want to include them and make them advisory, but not make them compulsory. What a costume may have is an attempt to accommodate some level of creativity and flexibility. Elements listed as acceptable here may not be traditionally associated with a costume, but are not so bizarre as to detract from it. Using our TIE pilot example, a blaster might fall into this category. We never saw pilots carrying them, but the inclusion of a blaster with the costume is not unreasonable. Again, these are just examples. But I hope the "must have, should have, may have" approach illustrates how much thought we put into this in order to try to be accommodating while still establishing and enforcing a standard. ![]() What we need is two reference pics of each costume category to submit to the Legion. Send your pics to me at kchristley@gmail.com and I'll get them added to the CRL. Kev Det Lead |

Folks - we need pictures to go along with our CRL entries and the LMO would like them as soon as possible. If you have a camera and the ability to costume up and shoot pics in the format described above in front of a neutral background, we can submit your pictures as part of the official Legion costuming standard. Submit your pics to kchristley@gmail.com using the format described in the first post. The Detachment command staff will evaluate the pics and submit the best of the best. Thanks, Kevin DL |
