Greetings troopers, As you are probably aware, the Legion Election Period has begun. You must be a 501st Legion member to participate in the Legion forums and you must be a member of Detachment forums and own an accepted 501st detachment costume to vote in Detachment elections. Elections cover the following positions: Legion Commanding Officer Garrison/Outpost Commanding Officer Squad Leader Detachment Leader Please head over to the 2009 Election Section and the 2009 Election Forums on the Legion Forum Boards. In regards to the Legion, Garrison, Outpost, Squad and Detachment-level elections, nominations are being done on the Legion forums, but all Detachment Q&A takes place here. The 2009 Q&A Forum will open up here shortly for the candidates to make their opening statements and to take questions from the Detachment members. On February 17th, the forum will be locked to the members, but will remain open to the candidates on the 18th to make final statements. Elections will then begin on the 19th at 12:01am GMT over on the Legion Forums. The voting period will run through the 25th of February. Elected officers take office on March 1st. Since Luis Carazo is the Detachment Captain of the Guard, he will be in charge of any necessary moderating or other such duties during the Q&A period. Unless there is a conflict of interest, he will oversee this process through the 18th. In regards to the LCO, all of the Q&A takes place on the Legion forums. Get to know the candidates! In regards to detachment Q&A, those will take place on the respective detachment forums. If there are any questions, please let us know here or PM me and I'll sort out any problems you may have! Good luck to all of the candidates! Kev Christley Spec Ops Det Lead |

Further notes from the Legion Captain of the Guard... Note: All times are in GMT Nominations for all elected positions may be submitted via the Legion voting page from 12:01am, February 1, 2009 to 11:59pm, February 7, 2009 (GMT). Members are limited to ONE NOMINATION PER OFFICE. In other words, you can only nominate one candidate for LCO, one for CO, one for Squad Leader, one for Detachment Leader. You CANNOT nominate two people for the same office. Think carefully about your nomination, and MAKE SURE THE NOMINEE EVEN WANTS TO RUN. From 12:01am, February 8th, Q&A threads will be opened for each valid candidate. LCO threads will be on the Legion forum, and each unit will be responsible for managing their own on their local unit forums. Q&A will run from February 8th through February 17th. February 18th is reserved for candidates' closing statements. On 12:01am, February 19th, voting will open on the Legion forum for all elected positions and run through to 11:59pm February 25th. Specific vote data will not be tracked (as in who voted or who voted for which candidate). Vote results and the formal announcements will be made after voting has concluded. Elected candidates officially take office March 1st. Once voting begins, the discussion thread will be locked. Further discussions may be conducted in other areas of the forum, but please remember the rules pertaining to the elections as well as those governing general forum behavior. Negative attack posts will not be tolerated. First occurrence will result in deletion with as little delay as possible. Second occurrence will result in deletion and private warning. Third occurrence will result in deletion and possible disciplinary action. In simpler terms, please don't be a jerk toward your fellow Legion members, no matter how much you disagree with them or dislike them. Notes on Campaigns Please keep "campaign signs" for your chosen candidate tasteful and innocuous (eg: no giant flashing signature banners trumpeting TB-0000 for LCO). Candidates, please keep any e-mail/PM/other private communication channel campaigns focused on your own campaign. Do not run any negative attack ads against other candidates, and do not add additional information not readily available for member scrutiny in the election forum. In other words, your campaigns in their entirety should be accessible by all Legion members -- a smaller subset of Legion members should not be getting more information than any other. Please respect the wishes of Legion members and avoid spamming them (spam defined as repetitive e-mails). If Legion members ask you not to contact them regarding elections, please respect their wishes. Note for Detachment Membership In order to nominate a candidate for DL and vote for a DL, you must be a member of that Detachment in the Legion database, not just in the Detachment forum. To certify Detachment membership, you must first have an eligible costume covered by that Detachment approved by your GML. Then, do the following: Go to the "Membership DB" on the Legion forum. The link is in the left menu. Select "YOUR PROFILE DATA" Scroll down to "Your Unit Affiliation" Click "Edit" If the costume has been approved by your GML, the Detachment you want to join will be listed as "Detachment Affiliation(s): Eligible:" Click "Add." After that, the Detachment Leader MUST approve your request before it will appear in the Detachment list. ONLY THEN will you be able to participate in Detachment elections. Rules for the Q&A Phase Signatures may contain campaign signs or graphics no larger than 150x50. Text should not be made larger than standard forum font size. Animated GIFs in signatures are to be removed. Avatars may be used for campaigning, within forum limitations. Candidates may use one or the other (signature graphic or avatar) but not both. Previous rules on campaigning outlined in election guidelines still apply. Posts deemed as "flames" will be edited or deleted upon judgment of the Captain of the Guard or assigned moderator. If you don't like a candidate's answer, don't goad him or her into a prolonged fight or "discussion" in an attempt to make him or her bend to your point of view. Don't vote for that person. No passive-aggressive, leading questions designed to embarrass, humiliate, or otherwise maneuver a candidate into a corner. Just as I expect candidates to be fair to you and each other, I expect you to be fair to your candidates, whether you agree with them or not. I will drop out of flowery legal-esque speech if rules-lawyering is detected. When I say "don't be a jerk," just stop being a jerk! Don't argue with it -- I'd only tell you that if you're BEING A JERK. Anything not expressly addressed herein may be subject to additional rulings as determined at any time by the Captain of the Guard. Candidates and voters are expected to comply. This list is not an all-encompassing list of rules. Other rules may be added or modified as the situations require. Any issues may be brought to the Captain of the Guard who is responsible for overseeing this process. Any decision made by the Captain of the Guard is final. |

It appears that I will remain in place as Spec Ops Detachment Leader this year and I would like to sincerely thank the 501st Legion Detachment members for your trust in me as your leader. I would like all of you to think about what you'd like us to accomplish as a group in this next year to make us even better and any suggestions or comments that you might have for the Det or myself. As I've done in the past, I will ask for volunteers for the positions of: Detachment Executive Officer Detachment Captain of the Guard Detachment Public Relations Officer Detachment Merchandising Officer I will place the respective threads in the 501st Legion Only section of this forum and request for volunteers tomorrow, whom the Detachment can vote upon once the Q&A period has ended. If you are a qualified TX and a 501st Legion member, please feel free to volunteer if you feel you can do the positions justice. Once again, thank you for your trust in me as your DL and we'll have a great team in place come March 1st! Kev |

Kevin I declined my nomination for DL (we have discussed the reasons already) But I'll be really proud to be at your side for whatever you need me to. I also want to thank you for your trust during this ending period and let you know that I'm ready to work for another year. |

I think we have a great year ahead of us and I personally thank Rob and Luis for stepping up and making the Spec Ops Det what it is today. There's a lot I'd like to do and I'd love to hear what you'd like to see in the way of changes in the next year. While the official Legion positions must be filled by Legion members, I welcome any forum member to help out where they see a good fit. This ranges from forum mods to web developers. I think we have a great looking forum here, but the WordPress site ( http://501stspecops.com/ ) could use a design revamp and I'd like to add videos and a photo gallery so we can extend our PR capabilities. If you're good with graphics and layout, I'd love to get a promo brochure built up for folks to download and spread the word. I'd also like to develop a membership certificate and a trooper of the month award for the Det. Honestly, there's a lot of good stuff we can get started working on and if anyone would like to help out, please volunteer. ![]() Kev Edited by COS_Vader, Feb 9 2009, 04:00 PM.

Just so the membership is aware, I posed this question to all the LCO candidates: As one of the EU Detachment Leaders, I feel compelled to ask this on behalf of our membership: Would you be willing to open a dialog with LFL to allow for the possible inclusion of EU troopers in their Canon events? I realize they can demand what they want to see, but it'd be nice to show them that as a group, our costuming skills extend into their own beloved EU territory. I'm very interested in the response as it could include our Detachment members in some of the more high profile LFL events. I think as an EU Detachment, we meet more critical standards in getting a costume approved because we have to research costumes that were not well documented on screen, yet execute them with the quality as if they were. I don't know if an LCO has ever brought this up at the table with LFL, but I think if they saw examples of some of the Legion's EU costuming, it might be a possibility in the future. Kev |

This just in from the Legion Captain of the Guard... The Q&A session for all candidates for all offices Legion-wide is now closed. Candidates may post their closing statements today on their local forums for local unit elections, and on the Legion forum for the three LCO candidates. As a reminder, voting takes place on the LEGION FORUM for ALL units (http://www.501stforums.com/elections/). When you log onto the Legion forum and click on the election link, you will be presented with a ballot that lists all of the candidates for your units -- Legion, Garrison, Squad if applicable, Detachment if applicable. This is managed by the Legion itself, not local units. There are some unfounded concerns that units can tamper with the vote results -- this is false. Please browse the candidate Q&A threads (for LCO and your local units) and vote if you are a 501st Legion member. Kev Spec Ops Det Leader |
