If buying lens can be paid via cpf...I'll be happy to let sony deduct it!
same same... but i guess we all need to have some minimum savings before the cpf board permits such allowances for bbb on lenses... :go-around:

if you think about it, when your gross pay hits 3.4k, you contribution to cpf stay stagnant.
That is cpf saying, 'take the extra and spend it on lenses'

:devil!:

Hey I don't contribute to CPF so does that mean I use the equivalent to buy cameras and lenses?

Camera is both a tool and a toy, if you can afford to spend on it, and want to beat you mate and get the latest toy, and keep yourself happy and satisfied, why not?

i think looking back at this thread title " are we spending too much on gears ... "

seriously it pointed to one area of every individual here - income or finances status

if one had so much, what is 5k or 10k ? it will be like a little coin dropped into a wishing well ...

so guys, at the end of all talk it is still about MONEY.

... beside photography spending, there are also things to think about related to this hobby.

look around; your family members, galfren or wife ? when is the last time u took photos of them with those gears u died for (i know Ming does take good photos of his family)

i remember my grandfather passed away one year after i took his photo during renuion dinner

i believe cpff have no cap, above certain amount $3.4 or 4.5k or whatever , you are liable for taxation.
so you can put in what you like(voluntary contribution), but it will be taxable.
