Birds need protein, and a seed diet, unfortunately, provides little protein. In the wild, birds have been observed eating insects. Protein sources should be used in moderation. Meat and poultry are good sources of B12, B6 and zinc.
STEAK (no pink showing) The vitamin values vary slightly between different cuts, but there is a large difference in the fat and calories.
ROAST BEEF (vitamin value varies between cuts)
TURKEY while turkey is a good source of zinc, different parts of the turkey will vary in fat & calories.
CHICKEN while its a good source of zinc, like turkey, different parts of the chicken will vary in fat and calories. When feeding your birds chicken or turkey, you can give the wing tips, thigh bones, and wing bones (depending on the size of your bird) with some meat on them. The bird will crack open and eat the marrow inside.
TUNA FISH (water packed; make sure it is low in sodium as well)
LIVER cooked (contains extremely high values of vitamin A and also contains B12, B6, D, and folacin)
RIBS (okay on occasions) large birds, especially, love ribs and crack the bones open to get the marrow. Make sure they are thoroughly cooked.
FISH (some types of non-oily, well-cooked fish may be acceptable) Fish is an excellent source of protein, but make sure it is thoroughly cooked and has no bones.
LAMB while i almost never see it listed, I have given my birds lamb chops whenever we have them. I also talked to my avian vet and she sees no problems with it either.
