Putting A STOP To Your Bird's Fear

I thought I'd write you today, to talk about a common piece of advice that I hear from parrot training experts ALL the time...that I completely disagree with.

There are two schools of thought on how you should set up your parrots environment.

The way that you hear most people talk about, is a method where you try to set up your bird's environment so it's SAFE, and secure. Lots of authors recommend that you don't make any sudden changes to your bird's environment so you don't stress him out.

These same people will then go on to share examples of all the ways they've changed their bird's environments in the past, and how it often results in their bird's having a tough time.

But, what this way of thinking fails to take into consideration, is that what's really going on is a problem with the bird's self confidence in new situations.

If instead of caving into the bird's fears of every new, little thing, why not try to fix the cause of the bird's problem directly...by building it's confidence in itself?

One of the best ways to do this, is to expose your bird to something new once a day.

It could be an object, place, or thing.

In fact, one of the best things you can do, is take your bird with you as you travel around.

Companies like BirdSupplies.com make fantastic pet bird carriers that allow me to take my bird with me and expose him to LOTS of new situations.

Every bird I ever do this with, ends up becoming less fearful, and even starts talking more. They get to see lots of new and interesting things by looking out the car window, and their likelihood of getting scared by new things ALWAYS goes down.

Plus, it's a good idea to always have a pet bird carrier on hand just in case you need to make an emergency vet trip anyways.

So, go pick up a bird carrier, spend the next few weeks taking your bird around with you in your daily travels, and watch as his confidence skyrockets.

Happy Training!
