Conure Crazed!!!!!!!!!
|
I wanted to get back into making things again and I thought good practice besides mending the arm pits in poorly made work shirts and shirts I bought from JCP where I clean; would be to attempt a happy hut. I hate patterns and I suck with scissors due to arthritis, but I cut 3 squares of patterned fleece I bought at WalMart, and 3 squares of JCP brand bathtowel that had been used in poorly made imitation folded towel displays. I realized later that I didn't have to cut three squares of each. I could have just used a nice length of each. but hey, I think I'm going senile and at 2 am, who really cares? right? ok, using my new overlock machinme that I had bought for myself as a gift sometime within the last year... could have been last mother's day, could have been christmas, but at the age of 33, on antidepressants, seeing a psychologist and working as a subcontracting PEON at J.C.Penney's, I could have bought the serger yesterday and would never remember it. anyway after fitting the pieces together and discovering that my ingenious method of folding into equal parts and cutting made 6 different sized pieces, I went to work. Towel will be inside, fleece on the outside. okay I put the pieces together inside out and at first made 3 little pillow slips. I turns them outsid right and proceded to overlock them together when I realized the alreday serged seams were TOO THICK FOR MY MACHINE TO HANDLE. after re-threading this complicated little device about half a dozen times, I cut off the completed seams I had previously made. okay, yay!! looking good, I now have three lopsided panels put together. and why is there a seam on the outside????? Crap. so I proceded to cut off that seam and re did it, on the reverse side. okay, serge the remaining open end shut. looks bad but hey, like the birds are going to mind having thread to pick at. Now I have a cylinder. If I hang it, it will look like a sock that they won't be able to go into. okay..... bamboo skewers!!! can't find em. ok, orange stick for manicures will do. I wrestled an orange stick thru the fleece at the bottom of the openings on fron and back and cut the pointed ends off. now how do I hang it? ok, I grabbed a couple of those toy clips with the srew bolt thingie in the side, punched a hole through the top below the seam with my scissors not thinking of several thick layers of fabric to tiny hole in clip. AAHHH!!!! okay, ten minutes later and with very sore fingers........ Here is what we have. ![]() and front view, is that thread hanging off the corner? why YES!! it is!!! ![]() Is it big enough for all three conures? Absolutely. Did they seem curious?? only after I walked away. More interested in abusing my hair while I attempted to hang the thing. Did they examine it?? Yes Do they like it??? No Will I remove it? After all that work? they'll eventually get used to it. |

Looks pretty good, Jo Anne. I'm sure if I attempted something like this, it would be unrecognizable.. I doubt I could sew myself out of a paper bag (or something like that.. ).
