when i got home from work today , i had noticed Connie { Conrad } had little wet spots around his nostrils . Then i found out why ! He has been sneezing alot since i have been home , and unfortunately their is a little discharge now . He was only sneezing a little bit here and there over the 2 1/2 weeks since we have had him , but now it has progressed to alot . The thing that stinks , is that he is caged with my baby sun { Sunny } and he is always in her face , and all over her . They sleep together , and i saw him sneeze in her face a few times ....... YIKES { Not Intentionally } , but i just dont want him to get her sick also ! I called the Avian vet , and unfortunately he cant see him until tuesday . I fell that is a long time to wait for alot of sneezing , he might get Sunny sneezing by then , but the vet said with all the rain we have had , and how crappy this spring has been . He feels its probably the Air conditioning in our house . I told him i keep the central air at 73 degrees , but he said that might be a little cold for them . Do you guys think the central air at 73 degrees is too cold for my Birds ? Well i called another vet { Not my present vet } and he isnt in until monday , so i guess we have to wait it out till Monday or tuesday . Do you think that will affect his overall health ? I just dont want the baby Dusky to get very sick , I might just be over - worrying , but my family does not want to lose another bird , like our previous one died from the teflon issue . Any feedback on the temperature , and if you think waiting until monday or tuesday will hurt my little guy , would be greatly appreciated . Did anyone ever bring their excessively sneezing bird to the vet ? If so what was the outcome ? |

Neither of mine have had excessive sneezing, just periods of sneezing (like I mentioned in the other thread). It might be a good idea to separate them until you can get in to see the vet. Just in case Con has come down with something and Sunny hasn't (yet). It is possible that the inside air is too dry also. We keep the AC set at 84 here, although it has a hard time keeping it that cool (been over 100 for almost 2 weeks straight now - 106 yesterday & 105 today). I don't know if 73 would be too cold or not. When I lived in Minnesota, I kept the furnace at 72 - 74 in Winter and the AC at 78 - 80 in Summer. I'd separate them, if possible. I'm sure they won't be too happy, but it's better to be safe. Keep an eye on both and if Sunny starts excessive sneezing, take them both to the vet. |

Thanks for the advice Mark , i am going to try to seperate them in the morning , since they are asleep right now . WOW , over 100 degrees for a couple weeks must be really rough ! I am sure that 84 degrees makes the house feel cool when it is 105 . I better up my thermostat a little to like 75 degrees , cause i think that is whats causing his sneezing fits . What worries me is i saw it was wet around his nostrils , and i heard that is really a bad sign when that happens . I googled it , and it said it is really BAD , which make me nervous . He is only about 15 weeks old now , and i dont want him to get worse . I am going to have to seperate them , which is gonna be REALLY HARD ! I am pretty sure Sunny is going to get really SAD , and probably be hurt ,and so will he . I wonder if he got some dust that irritated him today . I am not sure , but im going to the vet with them both , because she is only 10 weeks , maybe 11 weeks , and he is 15 weeks . They havent had their first checkups yet anyways , and i am sure its better to do that after you get them from the breeder . I am sure since they have been together all day , if he is sick , you can bet she already has it . They do everything together , and he sneezed in her face on more than a couple occasions . Wish me luck , i hope the sneezing tones down until we get to the vet , I just dont want my little buddy to die . I dont think he will , but i am a bit worried . |

We keep the ac at 78* (keeps the electric bill down too!) Coco our males green cheek has sneezing fits, so we have a humidifier on a lot in the summer for him. But we're in los angeles area, so pretty much building built on desert! Its amaizing how much more the air dries out when the ac is on! |

Yeah , i bet if i put my ac up to about 78 , maybr i could save some cash too ! Electric over here in the northeast is ridiculously EXPENSIVE ! Good News : The vet was able to see Connie , and Sunny today , and he found connie had a small respiratory infection , He also checked Sunny and saw her sneeze a couple times , so he figures she has it too , and he sent us on our way with some antibiotics for the birds . He said they llok really healthy , besides the little cold Connie has , and he believes Sunny is developing from Connie all up in her face . He also said they can stay together , because they are both on the same Medication , and they dont need to be seperated . So that is great news for us to know they will be just fine . Thanks for all the advice also . I will post some new pics , as soon as they feel a little better .

I'm glad that the vet was able to see them sooner than they said. Also glad it's not a serious illness. I'm sure Sunny and Connie are happy they can stay together too..

Yeah they are ! Those 2 cant be seperated . Even at the vet when he was checking Sunny out , Connie was going crazy trying to get to her . The same thing happened when connie got his checkup . She flew on the vets head . Her wings look clipped , but she can fly . She flew from one room to another in my house , and when she is on her playstand , she will fly up into my wife or daughters hair . I forgot to ask the vet if her wings are really clipped . They look it a bit , but she can obviously fly around . Connie cant fly because his wings are clipped inside . He can only fly to the ground ... lol |
