My Aunt Carol used to have two Cockatiels, Cocoa and Baby. They were in the livingroom, which is a straight shot to the kitchen, and both birds were flighted.. one day, she was boiling water for Spaghetti, and Cocoa tried to fly to her, he landed in the pot.

She didn't get him out in time >< she said it was the most horrible noise she's ever heard in her life. She cried for days, poor thing, and ended up giving Baby to her sister, because she felt so horrible.

so, Keep the birds in their cages, and the lids on the pots!

I guess I've been lucky with all of the different birds I've had over the years. There are so many things I never thought of when I first started keeping birds in 1990.

That is so sad :  but i know what you mean, i remember when i was younger we had a couple of cut throat finches which had the freedon of flight in the living room, one of them escaped into the kitchen and landed in the chip pan my mum had just put on the stove but luckily the oil was still cold, but it took me ages to wash all the oil of the poor little bird. I always keep my birds well away from the ktichen now.

Another reason for wing clipping. sorry folks. I'm a fan of wing clipping. I currently work at a petshop now and you wouldn't believe the escapees we've caught or customers had brought to us from outside. One happened to be a blue and gold macaw. Another was a budgie that was found wandering around the K-mart parking lot. One of my best friends said a budgie wandered in to the service garage he manages so he took it home to his girlfriend.

I used to believe in wing clipping, til Galen almost got eaten by out puppy... we are very cautious to put Galen away if we're opening a door, or have another dangerous activity going on! Just part of being a parrot parent... I had a cockatiel that had her wings clipped before she was done being hand fed, she would try to fly, but end up falling off whatever it was, it broke my heart! (she ended up dying before she was two months old, she had a condition from her breeders, I forget what it was, but both hubby and I shed a tear for that bird, she was a sweet baby!

Dont even have words for how awful that must have been.
I'm against wing clipping and think thats mean to the bird *thats my opinion*. Ppl should NOT take the birds into the kitchen when ppl are fixing food there. Put them in the cage while u make food and eat.
