It looks like this cant be used on metal, but theres lots of good information on whats in paint and what makes it toxic to people/pets.

you want to make sure there are no:
lead, mercury, formaldehyde, formaldehyde precursors, crystalline silica or other known toxic materials or suspected carcinogens.
