Good info and links Russell ! I like the bird tricks alot . Good Post !! I also agree with you on the clicker training , which i was looking for the best book possible on using this technique . I have heard this works well with birds , and i definitely hope it will work for my birds . As for the cage size ..... Yes , it is a bit small for even 1 bird by the dimensions he has listed , let alone another bird . I myself have a huge cage , because i like to give my birds good toys ( Nice big selection ) and also like them to have room to stretch , and exercise around when they are inside . If he were to maybe upgrade to a larger cage , he probably could get another bird , although it doesnt sound like he wants to go that route anyways . I like also the shreddable toys , and also foraging toys which definitely keep them occupied , and also helps them relate to their natural instincts to forage . |

Conure Crazed!!!!!!!!!
|
I'm reposting because my previous reply mysteriously vanished. I never said to add a second bird to the same cage. This is what I said. "seriously, get a playmate. even if it means getting a budgie in a separate cage. Your conure needs companionship. a lonely bird will withdraw from everything and tend to over react when it does get attention. and that over reacting could be that it's happy to see you and want to play or it could be the opposite and bite the living out of you. turn on the tv or a radio when you are gone if you still don't like the idea of letting your "child" have a playmate."All of my birds chatter back and forth across the room from one another, and if I take one into another room they still yell back and forth. If you honestly CANNOT add a playmate, then your green cheek needs something to occupy his time when he is alone. play the radio, leave a tv on, get some toys that make noise, like the birdie cell phone. add shreddable toys, maybe even add a tiny mirror. Mirrors are a big no-no when it comes to wanting the conure to bond to you, but if they are alone constantly, the reflection will provide a companion when nothing else will. I don't recall what all I had in my previous post but I'm sure this about covers it for the most part. |
