Hi all: It's going to be a while before we bring home our conure but I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good avian vet in/around Harrisburg, PA? I've found two online in my area but with very few user reviews on either (one had 3 -- all good and the other had 1 which was bad). Both have been in the area for quite a while but I haven't used either for my cats. Any help would truly be appropriated. Our breeder has recommendations in their area, but that's an hour drive from where we live -- in an emergency, I think that is way too far! As first time bird owners, we really want to make sure we do this right! |

I use a vet in Ebensburgh for my birds, but then I live in western PA. There are also some in the pittsburgh and monroeville area. I know that's too far for where you are. The best thing would be to call your regular vet and ask who they would recommend because not all vets who see birds advertise. it's really hard to find a good exotics vet anywhere. http://www.covemountainanimalhospital.com/?src=000&dk=t http://www.barschanimalclinic.com/index.html |

Thank you, anyway. I'll keep calling around. The clinic I use for my cats doesn't treat exotics but one I've talked to near where we live does. Out of 5 vets in the practice, 2 of specialize in exotics, 1 has a specializes in birds but wanted to check with people who have experience! PS: "appropriated" was suppose to be "appreciated"

Aston, PA - Gloria J. Goodman (Avian & Exotic Animal Med) - 610-494-2811 Philadelphia, PA - Evelyn Ivey - 215-573-4368 Philadelphia, PA - Karen Rosenthal (U of Penn) - 215-573-8565 I have no idea where they are compaired to you, but these 3 are listed on the Diplomates of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Certified in Avian Practice (april 09) even if they are too far away, they may be able to recomend someone closer to you? http://s11.zetaboards.com/Conure_Crazy/topic/7140521/1/#new |
