We just got our little green cheek this last weekend and she is so perfect! We knew when we got her that we would be getting another one as well but the breeder explained it would be best to allow her some time to bond with us and get her a 'buddy' down the road. Here is our question: Should we get another green cheek or would it be okay to consider other types of conures? I do realize that we run the risk of them not ever really loving eachother at all, whether we get the same kind or not. We would like to do some in depth research into different types of conures before purchasing and it seems like starting now should prepare us for a decision in the next few months! Autumn |

Hi Autumn , I definitely believe that you can consider another type of conure , or even another GCC . I believe that there is always a good chance that 2 conures will get along well , when they are introduced to each other while they are still young birds . Some people have even had luck introducing a young conure to a 3 to 4 year old bird , and they still got along fine . I guess it all depends on the bird . There is always a small chance they might not get along , but i believe they can co exist just fine together . I have a Dusky & Sun housed together , and they get along just fine !

I personally preffer to keep the same type paired, and make the pair male to female to keep things as natural as possible. Everything in their life is so unatural as it is, I can at least try to offer a natural mate (this doesnt mean for breeding either) But thats just my opinion ![]() Many keepers have a variety of conures... heck, some have non conures as buddies too! |

It is definitely okay to mix different species if you want to get your baby a friend somewhere down the road! I've got a Blue Crown, and a Sun housed together. They get along just fine, preening and snuggling. So, don't worry about different breeds ![]() |

I have 4 greencheeks (1 pineapple, 1 cinnamon, 2 yellowsides) and a Sun in one flight cage, and I also have 5 cockatiels and a Princess of Wales Parakeet in another flight cage. They all entertain each other, as well as my mated pair of normal greencheeks, 2 pairs of red rump parakeets, 4+ pairs of budgies and 1 pair of lovebirds. all are in the same room and they chatter back and forth to one another. |

Just want to add that we got Oggie who is 10 years old and he fit in quite nicely with our other two aged 1 year and 3 years old. They are all Green cheeks. I want to add a ysgcc and a black capped conure. Never enough money! |
