Hey there, I've just gotten a new yellow sided green cheek conure. He is very sweet and loves people, he always wants to come out and play but is a huge biter. I don't think he knows that it hurts and he has broke skin many times. I've tried many techniques like blowing in the face, holding the beak, and swaying my hand slightly but these make him bite harder. After he bites he sort of licks the wound and then bites again. He's not affraid of hands as he'll go looking for them and if any of you have heard of the power pause from bird tricks this certainly does not work because he'll reach or fly up to my hand and then bite ![]() I don't really know what to do. Do you guys think something like this could just go away with time? I just wrapped him in a thin little cloth napkin and was giving him scratches and he loved that, he even fell asleep for about five minutes. But when I was putting him away again he just bit me. It doesn't really matter where we are he just bites ![]() I have read about learned aggression and do you think maybe this is what he has? Maybe the breeder accidentaly taught him learned aggression? This is only my second day in having him and the breeded said he was handfed but lately had not been getting much attention. Thanks so much! |

My Echo did the same here. We tried saying No, paid no attention while he took a bite (screaming inside), removed him from us and lots of other things. Nothing helped. His biting was so bad that he bie small pieces from our skin. As the breeder told us that it will go over from when he's around 2. Its just him being a teenager. So we started to read his body lingo. When we saw ok now he's going to bite us we took him and sat him on the cage, gave him fruits or just made him think about other things. But only before he start to bite. Putting him in a cage while or after he bites can make it worse cause thats a punishment and he might think that the cage is a bad thing. Learn how he acts and read his bodylingo, that worked for us. We have the same thing with Chanel but she's under 2 so i think its the same with her as it was with Echo. Btw.. Girls bite so much harder then the guys

Well i agree with Cathy that the conure is young and is going through the " Biting " stage . Try what Cathy said , and try not to use the inside of the cage as punishment . My Dusky can Bite very hard at times ( Randomly ) and he has been getting better with time . He bites much less than he used to . Maybe it is because he is getting older ? Try not to get frustrated with the biting . I believe the biting will calm down as some time passes . Try small training techiques too . |

Thank you so much guys! I guess I kinda freaked because I was really not expecting this. He/she had his first bath today! (Atleast at my house) I lowered him down and splashed some water on him, then he started bathing himself and squirming in the water to get more submerged. I believe I also saw some new feathers coming in and I hear that can cause discomfort. |

Yes it could be annoying for them . Give it some adjustment period , and your conure will bite less over time . ( At least mine has been ) . |
