Max and Eva say "Thank You".

Sure....playful....is that what you call it when she tries to bite your fingers off? I seriously can't handle her right now--she needs a beak trim something fierce (needle sharp and evil!!!). I love her to pieces though and am slowly working on getting her handleable. It seems everyone can handle her but me...don't know what that is about. But I am sure with time and patience, we will get it figured out (about the time I turn 98!!) lol :laughingonthefloor:

Now I have added a budgie and a Quaker Parrot to my menagerie...SOMEBODY STOP ME BEFORE I GET MORE!!! I just love birds to pieces and am trying to make homemade nutriberries tonight. We will see how they go over.

BTW---your two are beautiful, I love the colors in the Sun Conures and green is my favorite color!!!

I figure (including his tail) that he is about 14 inches long (about 35cm). He is a pretty good sized bird--but he needs to be to go with that beak--YIKES...
I have a vet appointment for him on Monday--he needs another dose of medicine. I am glad that I immediately called and had his file transfered to me--then went in to look at it. I didn't know that he needed a last dose of medicine for his feather plucking. He has managed to pull out the feathers that were regrowing...I really need to figure out how to stop that. I will make him a preening toy as soon as I can get to the hardware store, I have added fresh fruits and veggies to his diet, he is mite free and really thinks that my poor fingers are exceedingly tasty whenever I try to take him out of his cage. Being irritated is the only time he seems to talk (except when I cover him for the night)--he whistles madly, says "c'mere" and "hello" even though he wants me to go away and say goodbye!! All this as I am trying to get him out of his cage and he is trying madly to get away from me. I know he has gone through a big change and needs to get used to my household...I really hope he comes around.

He will come around . It is a transition period , and once he gets adjusted to you and his new surroundings it will be more comfortable for him .

As for the feather plucking , i cant say that there are many things to help with it . During your vet appointment you should ask the vet what helps with that ( besides the medicine ) .

Hopefully after his next dose of medicine , it will help subside the plucking . :D

I hope the plucking does subside--he is a really pretty bird and once all his feathers grow in and he is all healthy he will be gorgeous!! I left the lock off of his cage this evening and he got out--happily he had no problem with me picking him up and loving him, though he did try to bite my 9 year old daughter when she tried to pet him. I keep warning her that the new birds are gonna need an adjustment time and we should probably introduce one person handling them at a time. Or would it be best to start letting her do some hands on with the new birds if they permit it? I want them socialized with the family and able to willingly be handled by any of us (children under strict supervision only!!!). I really don't know on this subject. As far as I know, this is Max's first exposure to children. I took him to Petco to show him off and ask the bird person there about them (she actually had knowledge about the slender bill and was able to take him from me without being bitten--everyone else gets attacked). I was very surprised, I didn't expect anyone would know. In January, I am gonna pick up some books on birds and care. Anyone got any good recommendations on books for conures, macaws, quaker parrots and parakeets? I enjoy my research on the web but find reading a book is soooo satisfying (I am a bookworm after all) and computers are just not as cozy as a book is in bed!

Thank you everyone!

By the way, the homemade nutriberries seem to be going over well!!
And does anybody use the brand Sleek and Sassy for their birds? I would like to know your opinions of it. The breeders here use it.
