A large old clock chimed ten times, indicating that it was ten o’clock. Trains were pulling in and out of the massive station. A loud speaker was announcing times and delays in French. Ash walked calmly across a large open foyer, in one hand a large black suit case on wheels, and a letter in the other. Written on the letter were instructions of were to go and what time to be there. She was fifteen minutes early, but she didn’t mind waiting. She stopped at a coffee vender and bought a medium black coffee with one sugar, and made her way towards the large revolving doors to the sheltered waiting area.

Outside several black taxis were waiting on the side of the road. The wind had picked up and large drops of water were beginning to fall from the sky. The letter had instructed her to wait by the large statue of an old man with a top hat on. Unfortunately that area had no cover over it, so Ash had to use the umbrella in her bag. Ash drank the rest of her coffee and placed it in a silver bin and began to walk to the statue. She pushed the button on the umbrella and it sprang into life.

She stood by the statue and began to examine what was written on the base. Apparently this man was the main architect of the building, but unfortunately passed away before its completion. The rain was falling harder now, and the wind seemed to be deliberately trying to throw the heavy rain drops at her. Ash checked her watch it was a minute to quarter past exactly. She turned around and watched the road and waited for her cousin to come and meet her. She had images of a large tall man with strong muscular arms and a proud dress sense like her own father to turn up, in a fast black sports car. But her imagination did run with her sometimes.

A sleek black limousine pulled up to the curb. Gerardo's chaffeur quickly stepped out into the rain and opened the door for Ash. A redhead in the Giovanni, Gerardo mused. I wonder where that comes from.

Gerardo was dressed impeccably as usual, his child-sized frame custom-fit to an expensive suit. The ghouled chaffeur ushered Ash in next to him. Forestalling any misunderstandings, Gerardo fixed Ash with a decisive stare and told her, "I am Gerardo Giovanni, your contact and superior. You will treat me with respect. How much do you know of why you are here?"

Gerardo could afford to be direct with mortals. They were expendable. He had heard a rumour that this one had talent; that was well and good, but no amount of talent could excuse disrespect for one's superiors within the Family. He intended to solve that problem before it started.

He wasn't sure how much she knew. It was possible she needed to be ghouled; Gerardo would see to that personally, if so. Gerardo liked to be in control.

Ash watched carefully as the limousine pulled to a slow halt in front of Ash. The Chauffeur stepped out into the rain, not seeming to bothered by the heavy falling rain. He took the umbrella from Ash's hand and opened the door. Ash stepped in gently and elegantly.

When the child sized form announced that he was Gerado Giovanni, Ash lost her nerve for just a split second before she adapted. If she knew anything about her family, then she had already guessed that Gerado was more powerful than he looked. Ash was not going to get on his bad side if she could help it.

"Gerado it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Ash." The French accent was deep and fluid. And to Ash's surprise she sounded more like her mother Myrtle when she spoke to the family, this surprised Ash. Ash extended her hand hoping to gain a hand shake. She knew she had a lot to learn, but she hoped for mutual respect in this business relationship.
