I've been on a self-imposed skating forum exile this week, so as not to spoil Skate Canada for myself until it aired. Just watched the ladies FS (which they played first?
) I'm pretty disappointed, as I had an outside hope that Emily would get silver, or a strong feeling that she could at least get bronze. The short program results sounded AMAZING, and it seemed she was ON. Well, I hate to say it, that LP leaves a great lot to be desired. Somehow I didn't notice while watching it live at Skate America. Maybe it was just the excitement of seeing Emily skate a LP in a real competition for the first time. But watching it again here, every jump I was saying "telegraphed... sigh", and there just wasn't a whole lot of artistry going on. I don't really care whether or not she missed some triples or combos - she didn't fall, none of the top ladies fell, so I was proud of them for that. But who choreographed that LP? Peter Johansson? It needs MORE to it. REALLY. I hope somehow that she can work with her choreographer and get in a few more moves, especially entrances. Seems to me that's what really broke the whole thing. So, since that Finnish girl totally self destructed (what a meltdown... I felt really bad for her), essentially we had Emily going from "1st" in the short program, even ahead of Mao Asada, down to 4th and off the podium without falling once. That's pretty telling. Emily has done far better than that. This was a huge chance for her, and it was all blown cause of that lackluster long program. Wish I could go back to Skate America, when I was standing behind her coaches, and smack Peter on the back of the head! (Well maybe not, but that's what I'm feeling at the moment...)
