I think its more the gesture than anything else. Just fans showing their appreciation. I see what you mean. And you're right, it is a nice gesture. It reminds me of how opera divas or prima ballerinas used to receive bouquets after their performances. Still, it would be nice to be able to give the flowers to the skater in person. If nothing else, it would give both giver and receiver something else to talk about when you ask them for their autograph. Plus, the bouquet could then be a kind of "thank you" for getting the autograph.
