As I mentioned in my "introduction" post, it was my discovery of two YouTube videos of Emily's performance at this year's Ice Chips show in Boston (www.icechips.org), on April 5th/6th, that absolutely captivated me and turned me into a fan. I think she looks utterly gorgeous in these videos, and I love her skating style. The Ice Chips event had a "Las Vegas" theme, so it's only natural that Emily skated to a Celine Dion number. The song is called "Taking Chances," viewable here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wzf_4uokG0&fmt=18 I also love Emily's costume in that number -- the most beautiful of any outfit she's ever worn for a performance, I think. Emily's second number for "Ice Chips" was her unique combination of Beethoven's Für Elise melded with the hip-hop song "Low." This is an extremely creative and original piece (for which Emily even included a costume change) and the only shame is that the YouTube video exclusively features the "Low" portion, not the opening. It's viewable here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te5UmC4s4eU&fmt=18 Exciting performances, both. Edited by kioewen, Aug 18 2008, 11:31 PM.

As I said above, it was seeing the brief YouTube clips of Emily's gorgeous performances at this year's Ice Chips show that turned me into a fan. Therefore, I was absolutely thrilled when I discoverd that a video-production company was officially hired to film this event, and is offering DVDs of the show for sale. And by the way, the YouTube clips are actually excerpts from these official videos of the event. You can find the pertinent information on the Web site of the Skating Club of Boston (the organization that hosts the event): http://www.scboston.org/icechips.php I called them, of course, and it turns out that the show was performed three times over the weekend -- a Saturday 1PM show, a Saturday 7PM show, and a Sunday 1PM show. Each show comes on a two-DVD set, $50 each. Now, because I loved these videos so much, of course I had to get all three (so $150 for 6 discs, but I don't regret it at all, because I enjoy them so much). The YouTube videos are excerpts from the first performance (Saturday at 1PM), but here's a tip -- if you're only going to buy one set, buy the Saturday 7PM show. The camerawork and lighting are slightly different for each show, and in my opinion, this is the one where Emily looked most beautiful. You can omit the Sunday 1PM show, as there, the lighting for the "Taking Chances" performance is too low, so one doesn't see Emily as clearly as one would wish. In more recent videos, I've seen that Emily has lost weight, which saddens me (although I realize that this is the look that the skating world enforces, tragically). There is no doubt that the Ice Chips videos show Emily at the peak of her beauty -- looking attractive, very shapely, and wearing the most stylish of all of her costumes. For Emily fans, these DVDs are a real treat. |

Just an FYI. Both of the routines from the April 2008 Ice Chips show have now been uploaded in their entirety (the previous uploads were merely incomplete fragments). As an added point of interest, these two are from the 7 P.M. show. The previous uploads were from the 2 P.M. event. You'll notice ever-so-slight differences, like the final spin of the "Für Elise/Low" performance, which comes off better in these new uploads. Here's "Taking Chances": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFWIyTcmGrg&fmt=18 And here's the "Für Elise/Low" combination: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KviuLgyCCWE&fmt=18 I've never seen any skater look as beautiful as Emily did during this period of her career. |
