I found a fascinating tidbit of information in the following profile of Emily:

http://web.icenetwork.com/skaters/detail.jsp?id=100056&mode=I

The write-up says:

Quote:

Hughes designs her own costumes

How interesting! I would love to know what goes into that process -- how she decides the style, the colour, how she balances aesthetics with function, etc.

Of the outfits that I have seen, my favourite of Emily's costumes is the one that she wore for the Celine Dion song in this year's "Ice Chips" show (the video for that performance, which I've posted on the Multimedia board, shows off the costume very effectively). She looked lovely in that ensemble.

Fashion design -- yet another one of Emily's many talents...

Thanks for the info kioewen.

However, I must say that I'm really surprised to read this as it's a well known fact that, Tania Bass has been the exclusive costume designer for the Hughes sisters.

From Tania Bass' website:
Tania is solely responsible for creating all of Emily’s competition and exhibition costumes.

For your added enjoyment there are about a dozen photos of Emily in Tania's beautiful, original creations.

What I believe to be the case is that Emily works very closely with Tania during the consultation and planning process on the design and construction of her costumes, but it is Tania who must take full credit for the final design and products. - or- Could it mean that Emily will be designing her 2008 costumes?

What is way, way, way more interesting about Emily's skater bio, is whom she lists, or rather doesn't list as her coach(es).

Ah, yes, you're right. How interesting. Of the ones pictured on Ms. Bass's site, I liked the lavender creation best:

http://www.taniabass.com/product.php?id=emilyhughes7

I found 8 other Emily photos on that site by changing the final digit in this url from a 7 to a 1 through 9. In my opinion, though, Emily looks even better in her outfits now than she did in her earlier days.

Perhaps you're right -- the meaning of the bio quote about designing her own outfits must be that Emily helps conceive of the style in tandem with Ms. Bass, who then creates the actual garments.

As for the point about coaches, I'm sure you're right. Pity that I don't know enough about who's who in coaching to gather the import of Emily's choices in that regard.
