Heh. Is it too early to start thinking about this? Just under two months away. Here's the schedule, unless I'm mistaken: http://www.cleveland2009.com/schedule.htm The big events:
Anyone going? |

Too early? I've been thinking about this Nationals for 2 years. Yes I will be going. Got 4th row for most of the events, which is the worst row for the most expensive section but w/e. I didn't know about the presale. Then I ran out of money and delayed buying a hotel room, which could be a bad mistake. Hopefully they aren't all filled. Cleveland isn't exactly the middle of nowhere, so should have quite a few hotels, however downtown has been undergoing renovation so... anyway I should really get the hotel room like NOW. I planned to room with someone from sashafans, but they stopped responding to my messages so that's not a good sign, LOL. Maybe it's for the best. I usually go to events alone, figured maybe for once it would be nice to meet up with someone and save us each $140, but ... oh well. My sister is driving in on Sunday to see the men's final and exhibition, and we're driving back after that. Tried to get her to go for the weekend but "she can't sit through that much skating." She's not really a FS fan. She just thinks Johnny and Evan are cute.

This is heartbreaking. Emily has had to withdraw from Nationals because of an ankle injury: - Article link I don't even care that much about competitions, but I was just eagerly anticipating seeing Emily skate again, at least on TV. I earnestly hope that she gets better soon, and that she will be back on the ice as soon as she can be. I can't even imagine how she must be feeling. I sincerely and wholeheartedly wish her all the best. In retrospect, I really wish she had put off university for a few years. After all, school would always be there for her, but skating is now. This is just me speculating, but I don't think she realized how much time doing an undergrad involves. For most anyone, high school is pretty easy, but in university, one's time is completely absorbed by essay-writing, preparing for exams, etc. Please get better soon, Emily. |

This sucks a great deal. Just last night I bought stuffed animals for the skaters, including a birthday bear for Emily. Kimmie is also out to injury, as well as Belbin & Agosto. I spent a LOT of money to go to Nationals, now I have 4 less reasons to enjoy it, but I just have to concentrate on all the ladies that will be there (I hope)Becky Bereswill Houston FSC Alissa Czisny Detroit SC, Inc. Laney Diggs All Year FSC Taylor Firth Jamestown SC Rachael Flatt Broadmoor SC, Inc. Joelle Forte The SC of New York, Inc. Alexe Gilles Broadmoor SC, Inc. Katrina Hacker The Skating Club of Boston Chrissy Hughes Highland SC Tatyana Khazova Broadmoor SC, Inc. Beatrisa Liang All Year FSC Angela Maxwell Dallas FSC, Inc. Kristine Musademba Washington FSC Mirai Nagasu Pasadena FSC Molly Oberstar St. Paul FSC, Inc Brittney Rizo The Skating Club of Boston Blake Rosenthal The SC of Wilmington, Inc Melissa Telecky Detroit SC, Inc. Tenile Victorsen All Year FSC Ashley Wagner The SC of Wilmington, Inc Brittney Westdorp Greater Grand Rapids FSC Caroline Zhang All Year FSC Karen Zhou All Year FSC The bright side is that I have already seen Kimmie, Emily, Tanith & Ben several times in person, talked to them (VERY briefly) and gotten their autographs. Although I also printed big 8x10 pictures of Emily and Kimmie, which I took at previous events, that I wanted to get signed But a lot of the newer ladies I have only seen on icenetwork the past 2 seasons, and never in person, so that's still exciting. And oh yeah, no more withdrawals!!! Please.

I feel for you, but I'm sure you'll have a good time. You're an avid fan of skating in general, so you'll surely like what you see at Nationals. For me, Emily is specifically the performer who brought me in, and while I've come to admire a few skaters in the past (Lisa Ervin, and now, looking back, Nancy Kerrigan), Emily is still the only current performer with whom I really connect. I just desperately want to see her skate again. If she has the time, I would love to see her do some exhibitions -- as she did Skating for Life last year. In a show environment, she can perform without competition pressures and build up her confidence, to help her get ready for when she feel ready to compete again. I don't know whether she'd want to take a year off school to get into the swing of it again, but school will always be there. I interrupted my Masters and came back to finish it after an interval of several years. I'm sure Harvard would comply if Emily were to take a year off -- if it's what she wants. But more than anything, I just hope she gets better. It's so sad to think of her being injured. Edited by kioewen, Jan 20 2009, 04:40 AM.
