Music for Emily?

This topic came up on another skating forum, and I thought it was too interesting not to mention here as well.

Watching the 2007 4CC program vs. the most recent Gone with the Wind program showed me how important music selection can be.

So, what sort of music have you always wanted Emily to skate to?

I'm thinking of competitions at the moment (therefore instrumental, non-vocal), but I also wonder what exhibition suggestions others might have.

Personally, the first thing that sprang to mind for me, when I thought of Emily and competitions, was Wagner -- both because I love Wagner, and because I haven't seen any skaters perform to Wagner, so it's not been done to death the way many music selections have been.

Above all, the Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin comes to mind (the rousing introductory section, not the wedding march).

Also, Tannhäuser (an edited blend of the Prelude and the eminently skatable Bacchanale, which is, after all, a ballet).

Wagner's music is so rich and opulent and dramatic, qualities that I associate with Emily -- her look, the way she skates, everything. It's not for shrinking violets.

Second to Wagner (but first in my heart) is Beethoven. Emily performed briefly to Für Elise in her "Low" combnation, of course, but I'm thinking how wonderful it would be for her to skate either to the first movement of the Pastoral symphony (just think how beautiful that would be!), or the first movement of the Eroica (which is more up-tempo, and, let's not forget, in danceable 3/4 time).

Skaters seem to perform to many of the same pieces, but these great compositions are like relatively virgin territory. It's amazing that they're still untried. I think Emily would perform amazing routines to any of these selections.
