Okay. This is an attempt to jump start the board a little bit. There was a link to an article in the 2010 Olympics prediction thread where the author believed Emily had gone as far as she could and given time off/school schedule and injuries would not be able to ever be a national champion or step onto a podium in the Olympics. My question is: Do you agree with that notion? For a while, I didn't think I agreed with it...but now it seems less and less likely that Em will be able reach that next level. I'd love for that feeling to be wrong. Thoughts? |

Well, it all depends on potential for what. If you mean potential for competition, I think it's an either/or for Emily between school and skating. And I don't blame her. When I was doing my undergrad, there's no way that I could have held on to a part-time job and still performed as well as I wanted to (and competitive skating is surely at least as time-consuming as a part-time job, and probably much more so). So if she wants to go for championships, I think she'd need to put school in hiatus for a bit. Personally, I would simply love to see her skate more -- in any circumstances (more shows, exhibitions, anything that gets her on the ice, and hopefully before the TV cameras). |
