I think there should be some other way to let people know your age or a rough age, than having to put in your complete birthdate on your profile . The FBI and NCIS - National Crime Information Center as well as most states, etc. use BIRTHDATE as a key point of information. My sis works for the JUSTICE DEPT. and I've learned this stuff...and a person with your name and birthdate and some other info MAY POSSIBLY be able to find out some personal info. Just having an age or range such as [20 to 30] is safer and it would identify any minors or old people to avoid. I don't want to talk to any minors other than simple things about skating and being skating fans... In other words I don't think (normal) ? older people would want to carry on any kind of conversation about anything with minors. Plus it makes people think you are weird or a pervert. On the other hand, I guess knowing someone is 17 might make a perv gravitate towards them. I don't mind giving basic info such as name, age, email, country, and city. The thing I worry about is all the SPAMMERS and the robots that go across sites and pull email addresses. Ever since I started posting to USFSA, this board, and a couple of others, I started getting tons of SPAM on my Hotmail account. Any thots on this.... |

this is a very good and interesting idea. I just joined KMF today and some1 asked for more info - this guy said "aren't you going to add your location and age"? I just typed in my home state. Ive been on SashaFans a while and I never posted my b-day. Not only because of privacy but i dont really celebrate anyway when its that time of the year. my age range btw is 20 -30 I've never really had spam issues - when my computer wasnt working. I told my best friend whom I trust with my life and is like a sister to me my password. Ive done this more than 1nce and shes had to ask for it more than 1nce since she did not write it down. but posting information thats private should not be done anyways.btw I should have realized b-day is key information - that could mean identity theft if some1 dosent take the right precautions. On a side and personal note - NCIS is one of my fav shows Mark Harmon is a great actor although his character name "Leroy Jethrow Gibbs" sounds just too corney. I like all the actors - especailly Ziva David, Director Jenny, and Tony Dinozo. My mom's fav character is Abby - lab techinican who dresses in goth style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXmqd35KD2w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juw7hIVnY0M |

*Moved to Feedback* I don't like the way that the board software doesn't allow you to entire just a partial birthday. Unfortunately, there is no setting that I can change that will allow you to enter just the day or month. Hopefully, that option or a way to choose from an age range will become available in a future upgrade. Personally, I don't recommend giving out any private information. I think the less a person knows, the better. If someone asks you to provide information that you don't want to give out, tell them that you don't want to give out that info or simply ignore them. If that doesn't work and they persist, report the situation to me immediately. On the Internet, a person can easily provide false information. So, it is important to be wary of anything someone posts. There has been a significant increase in spam and spam bots over the past six months or so. I've read several articles about the issue and all of the software boards are overflowing with people looking for ways to stop the problem. I never used to get spam email in any of my accounts but now I'm getting several messages per day. On this forum, bots are not able to see the email address that you provide at registration. They will not be able to get your email address unless you post it somewhere in the forum. So, if you want someone to email you, I recommend sending that person a private message with your email address. As an extra precaution, I recommend going into your control panel and checking the box next to "Hide my email address from other members" which is located in "Email Settings". |

I pretty much agree with you.!! It is too bad that there are dishonest and even criminal people out there. Over the years I've never had too many problems on the NET. But since I sometimes write articles, I have gotten some hate mail from what I consider weak and sick minds. This is in reference to music. Music is one of the most controversial things to write about--really. You can criticize someone's family or politics or almost anything else but NEVER ever criticize their favorite band/singer/actror. I once lost an awesome girlfriend who didn't like the fact I was critical of some disco/rap artists and she thot I was 'judgmental.' As a reviewer I give my INFORMED opinion. So she lost out on a great cathc: me!!

Yep, that option became available in the lastest version of vBulletin. In older versions it was all or nothing. |
