Since there's already a thread I guess I'll post in here. Exclusive, in-your-face Emily pics from Skate America 2007, posted here first! (By the way, let me know if these are gamma-corrected too high on your monitor! I think my monitor is really dark, it is seriously throwing me off...) Emily Hughes - Sunday Practice  As you can see, Emily is first out of the gate for the Group 2 practice session. She was at the front of that gate EVERY TIME she took the ice. I think she was really pumped!     Out of the jacket, we see her long program outfit. A city skyline I believe. I like it. On any other skater I would question, but Emily is cute enough to pull off anything.     Emily with her new coach, Mark Mitchell. They seem to get on well.  Though here he seems to be eyeing the competition more intently?   Emily, Mark and I believe Peter Johansson. I sat near the coaching area during practice, and at the end of the ladies' program music I walked up with people to get autographs, but there were still 13 minutes left in the practice. Then I realized... I'm standing right next to Mark Mitchell, DIRECTLY IN FRONT of Emily's spot. Needless to say, I got some nice shots... No, I mean... I got some NICE SHOTS! (you may want to be sitting down!)  (Water on the nose and cheek, heh!)   I just kept casually snapping candid shots, trying to act nonchalant while Emily stood probably 4 feet from me...   Signing autographs - I had one from Saturday, so I asked for a pose instead (I really wanted to ask for a hug, but I felt too weird about it... plus I was afraid I'd make her lose her balance or something!)  She is just too adorable!!  OK! So these are just 1/3 of the EMILY shots, of the practice session, from Sunday. I have my work cut out for me.  your pictures of wonderful. thank you so much for posting them
 so neat you got to have Em's autograph. id feel kinda weird asking for a hug too but id guess she would do it for a fan
 did you happen to ask her if she knows about our forum - that would be nice to know that she knows she has a fan forum where we wish nothing but continued success in her skating and her personal lifealso thank you judith for your pics - i like the first one you posted. looks like Em is a bit more flexible this season. her short program dress - i like the color more than the style and her lp dress i would also question it on another skater but it looks very nice on her. |

When I look at the pics, I'm jealous of myself!
 But seriously... no I didn't ask her anything like that. There were quite a few fans clamoring for attention and autographs, and I got a bit shy when she came around to my turn. I talked to her on Saturday and basically just got the autograph, thanked her for it and then wished her good luck that night. On Sunday I just asked for the pic and forgot to say anything else. I'm not usually nervous around celebrities either. There was just so much going on, plus all the picture taking that I was kind of frazzled. Plus I felt a little... old. Many of the autograph seekers were little kids (though not all.) Anyway, I am GOING to 2009 Nationals. I've decided it. (At least for all the ladies' stuff.) I also want to try to have a nice camera by then. So I'll get another chance (unless the Nationals crowd is too overwhelming...)

Hey, I'm back (took some time away to avoid spoiling the Skate Canada results for myself.) Just wanted to say that there will be more Skate America pics coming, and some good ones at that! I also started using a new program (Picasa) to lighten the pics, and they will look a lot better and less washed out than the gamma-corrected versions. I'll have to just redo all the existing ones as well. |

Awesome pics, Particle Man! Those close-up shots are great! Does anyone else think it looks like Emily is blushing in the last one? Her cheeks are pink in the one where she is posing for the camera but not the other ones. Very cute.

I didn't even notice that. Well, I asked for the picture, she started to pose while I got my camera ready and then someone to my right said "she's very photogenic!" So maybe that comment made her blush a bit.
 I was too shell-shocked to say anything witty like that at the time, doh!

Awesome pictures!
I would have felt totally awkward snapping all those close ups.
She might be blushing a little bit in that last shot... it's hard to tell. The smile seems slightly more forced so maybe that makes it seem like she's blushing. Either way its a great picture. Heh, I don't blame you. I'd likely be the same way. Oh, and the gamma on them seems about right on my monitor. |

It looks like she is blushing to me, her cheeks are bright pink. It probably was the "photogenic" line that caused Emily to blush. |
