Hello blog
If you haven't heard already, I've moved from the beach house in California to the barren time-warp of Amargosa Valley, Nevada. I'm bunking with my Aunt Carol, who seems to have more things in common with me than I initially expected.
It looks like I'm going to be here for awhile. I finally got ahold of my family back in California tonight and it seems they're still in the financial trench they were when I left them. Mom's pawning stuff for money, but I doubt that'll be enough. I might go over to visit next weekend to say hi, vote, and hopefully save all my stuff that's stuck in the storage. I don't think my mother will be financially wise enough to keep up with payments.
There's not much to do here since it's almost literally in the middle of nowhere. Our nearest neighbor isn't in our sight. The only companions I have are my aunt, her many animals, and my online friends. It gets kind of dull and lonely, but it's better than being a drain on my family.
One advantage is that I've been eating actual food lately. There's no fast-food restaurants nearby. We buy our stuff from a delivery truck every two weeks or so. I had Japanese stir fry for dinner and I've been snorting Chicken Pot Pies since I got here.
We have a mice problem in the bathroom, but our cats (including my Codee, who I brought with me along with my sister's pet bearded dragon) have been doing a number on them. <3 There's a group of ranch dogs which guard the house as well as a gang of geese that travel in a group wherever they go. The geese are quite mean, but it's lulzy to watch them try to fly away (in a group still, no less) and utterly fail. There's chickens strewn all over the place, but I think my aunt has more roosters than chickens. And they caw ALL THE DAMN TIME.
There's horseys, too, but I don't think they're trained to ride. One mare is pregnant. I might get to see the wonders of horsey childbirth while I'm here. Lovely.
My aunt and her boyfriend absolutely dote on the bearded dragon. We've finally figured out that V.R. is actually a girly lizard. They tend to it studiously and Archie (the boyfriend) feeds it every day. He's already staked claim on V.R., but I'm confident my sister would like to see her back. We'll see.
I'm stuck on dial-up if you haven't heard me bitch about it. It took awhile to adjust, but I've accepted my fate. There's talk that one of my aunt's friends may install wireless for us, but I'm not getting my hopes up. No one else here really uses the internet extensively.
The weather so far has been very hot, very windy, or moderately cold (not freezing yet, but I bet that'll change soon). There's rarely an in-between for desert areas, and boy is it a desert. We have a cozy fireplace, though.
I've made some friends at the local church and I've went to their Tea and movie night, but I'm not one for religious commitments (I'm not a Christian) and they're all older than me. It was nice to get out and socialize, though. The speaker at the Tea seemed flattered at my attentiveness to her speech and prayed for me, but since I liked the speech I didn't really mind. There were religious undertones, of course, but the overall message was something I could agree with. It was about the role of women, how they're not inferior but supposed to walk ALONGSIDE Adam in spite of popular church perceptions, but I'm not going to get into it here. This journal entry is long enough as it is (I think it's my longest).
I've gambled here, though I didn't really want to since it wasn't my money. I lost each time but once, and that 'once' was only me winning back what I lost. My aunt's good at it and made up for my losses, though. It just isn't my thang.
