The casual gamers who don't know of Maniac Mode outnumber the people who do. Well, the simple solution is that the people who can't stand Maniac Mode's difficulty will play the easier difficulties whilst the people who can will play Maniac Mode. It seems like a waste of time to go through and take out the entire mode, IMO.
