The only "necessary" unit is the main lord, but that doesn't automatically make the main lord the best unit in the game (I.E., how NO ONE put Ephraim/Eirika as number one). "Not necessary" applies to almost every unit, I don't need Franz either... h4x It's just as weak to say that any fighter is replaceable. Raven can be replaced. You can just use Harken and you've got your high SPD, high MT, amazing Hero. It's weak because Raven is arguably second best in the game, I merely used the necessary argument to counter the replacement argument because it's, quite frankly, stupid logic. The only necessary, unreplaceable unit is the main lord. Merlinus is very, VERY useful. Merlinus needs to be guarded on many chapters until he promotes. I question if he's top tier because he diverts the small amount of units you get per chapter into an even smaller number actually going headlong into the fray.
