Chapter 4 The entire ballroom was left with only the active Military Soldiers who were at it, being Jaffar, Pendant, Neo, Leon, Apocalypse, Bryars, Garet, Reaver, and…Seahawk. “Bryars, Leon, Apocalypse, go and scan the rest of HQ, I doubt that Marcus would only attack the Ball itself.” Jaffar ordered. As the three saluted and ran off, Jaffar turned towards Marcus, “I don’t remember sending you an invite.” Marcus frowned, “I know! Just how could you forget about little ol’ me? I brought some friends though, that ok?” He pointed his thumb at Air Grady, Hiei, Darksushi, Bloodrain, and lastly, Zagar. Who was playing with a yo-yo. “Sorry about the rude entrance, I just couldn’t find the doors…” Marcus explained. “I see you recognize some of my pals here, they’ve been crashing at your place for a while, but the accommodations just were not to their liking.” “Well, unfortunately, none of your names are on the list.” Jaffar said, “But, this does have its plus-sides. Marcus, you’re wanted for suspected murder of Santi, and several other killings across the city of Fef. I take it you won’t surrender and come quietly?” “Killings!? Oh my.” Marcus giggled, “Sorry, but I saw the rooms you give to the people you don’t like too much. Little cagey-feel to it, and who knows what’s growing there…and I just can’t let you get away with giving my home-slices poor rooming.” He looked over at Air Grady, “Did I pronounce that right?” “It was aight.” Air Grady shrugged. “You put the, ‘Ho’, in, ‘Ghetto’ “Is that a compliment?” Marcus asked, and Air Grady shrugged again, “Whatever you want.” Marcus smiled and looked back at Jaffar, “Now, it’s time for me and my pretties to clean up the Military around here! You just have too many boons around here, consider this a toll-free extermination!” “You’re the only things that’ll get exterminated!” Seahawk said, still in a dress. “That’s a come-back?” Neo asked, his cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Seahawk nervously looked around the room then at Neo, “U-Uhh…yeah.” “Sigh.” Neo used psynergy, and the sand in the air came towards him, and took the shape of a shot-gun in his hands. The sand-shotgun was quite solid too, harder than a rock. Neo raised the gun to his eye-line then pulled the trigger, shooting a large earth-bullet at the Anti-Boons, the size of a base-ball. Zagar pulled out his katana and swung at the large-bullet, which only broke his sword in half. “Well, I saw that go through my mind in a different way…” He growled, and charged as the other Anti-Boons did, excluding Marcus. Hiei slammed his hand at the ground, which shot out dozens of large crystal-spikes from the ground, charging towards the Military. Garet grit his teeth and did the same as Hiei, but instead a large wave of fire erupted at the charging crystal spikes, melting them. Garet stood back up satisfied, but didn’t see the large pulse of rushing water flying at him, which sent him flying all the way to the other side of the ball-room. Marcus blew his fingers, smiling. However, he noticed a slight change in the temperature, and it wasn’t from the mass of water he just shot out at Garet, or any use of psynergy at all. A large shadow was engulfing him. He quickly drew his katana and spun around and parried Jaffar’s own katana, being used by no other, Jaffar. Marcus gave a fake gasp, “My, my! You know that is dangerous!” He said, as the two swords were being grinded against each other. “Marcus, you idiot. Surrender and you won’t get hurt.” Jaffar said, pushing his blade against Marcus’s. Marcus smiled, “Oh come on, I can’t do that and you know it. That’ll classify me as a boon. Which is what you’ve grown to be!” He then casted psynergy, which causted Jaffar to react by creating a shield made of wind in front of him, splashing the large and powerful blast of water that Marcus shot at him. But the blast was so long-lasting and powerful at the same time, the shield broke, and Jaffar was sent flying out of the ball-room, into the park outside. Marcus quickly casted more psynergy and froze the water blast that he summoned, while Jaffar was in mid-air, and froze his torso as well. Jaffar was stuck, he tried chopping the over-sized icicle, but it wouldn’t bust. He continued as Marcus walked under him, smiling from the couple dozen feet below Jaffar, “Jaffar, you silly boon. I think it’s time someone got what they paid for~” --- Bryars struggled running down the empty hallways, being faintly drunk. He half-tripped several times, then finally cured himself by using water psynergy. The first time he did it, he almost killed himself by casting the wrong water psynergy, tundra. He realized his mistake half a second he was in the middle of casting it, and then did the correct healing Mercury spell. When he caught up with Leon and Apocalypse, he was panting heavily, “W-Where do we go? Colonel Jaffar wasn’t…wasn’t very specific…” “Ok, I’m an Anti-Boon member. I want to kill as many boons as I can. Where do I go at the Military HQ?” Apocalypse asked, “The ball-room has already been evacuated, and we haven’t ran into any bodies yet…” “The jail.” Leon said, “Not all of them were Anti-Boons.” “But by the looks of it they’ve already broken some of them out, Air Grady, Zagar, Hiei…” Apocalypse counted with his fingers, “We’re probably too late by the time we get there.” “Let’s check it out anyway.” Bryars said, “No harm. You can teleport us, right, Lt. Colonel?” “Oh, that’s right.” Leon said, adjusting his sunglasses. Apocalypse almost fell over, “Why are we running when you can teleport!?” “Forgot about that, jeez! Whatever, everyone gather ‘round…” Leon said, as Bryars and Apocalypse only dared to take one more step forward. “And tap your shoes together and say three times, ‘There is no place like home, there is no pl-‘” “Lt. Colonel, if we could just skip the…” “Right.” Leon snapped his fingers, and the three vanished from the hallway. --- Apocalypse held his stomach with both his arms, “Argh…now I know what my stomach tastes like…” He looked around, and saw a bed, a window that over-looked the Military’s courtyard, and an open closet full of dresses. “Lt. Colonel, this is Crystal’s room…” Bryars sighed, pointing at a picture of her and her family on the wall. “Oh.” Leon blankly said, “That was the first thing that popped into my mind. My bad.” He snapped his fingers again, and the three again, vanished. --- “I’m so glad I’m not a wind adept…teleporting…it…oh god, the walls are about to get painted with my insides…” Apocalypse groaned, with the same reaction as before. “Suck it up,” Bryars said, “I had more to drink than you and I’m cool.” “Looks like this place isn’t, though.” Leon said, as the three were at the entrance of the jail, and he pointed at the Security Room inside, which got a new shade of red on its windows and walls. Apocalypse blinked, “Not…well, that’s not a welcoming sign.” “Let’s move. Clean-up duty for us.” Leon said, loading his pistol, “I’d better get my salary doubled for this.” The three ran through the busted-down door, and Leon took out a small flash-light and attached it to his pistol and searched down the long and dark cell-hallway while Bryars took a peek in the Security office. “Well…those two are missing some important organs…and how wonderful, Anti-Boon didn’t forget to put their trade-mark on their forehead.” “Blech.” Apocalypse stuck out his tongue, disgusted. “Hmn? Hey guys, you hear that?” Bryars stepped out of the bloody small room and into the cell hallway again, “Hmn? What’s that?” “Katana clashing. Or some kind of metal. Down the corner.” Leon said, “Looks like we got some survivors. Let’s move, but watch out for fugitives…they can jump out of nowhere.” “Narrow hallway though, only place they can come from is either above from the ceiling tiles or the jail cells on either side of us.” Apocalypse said as the three walked down the jail hallway cautiously, then drew his katana, “But eh…We should’ve gotten back-up. Just the three of us can’t take on whatever else Marcus is packing. Look, they already killed some guys in the cells here…urgh…” “If worse comes to worse we can always retreat by teleporting.” Leon said, now taking the turn down the hallway, and flashed his flashlight down the corridor. He screamed, and then shot his pistol repeatedly and backed up. With each shot Apocalypse and Bryars could hear flesh being shot at. Bryars drew his katana as well, “L-Lt. Colonel! What is it!?” “B-B-B…false alarm.” He said, as he adjusted his glasses again and looked over the hallway again, leaning against the wall. Apocalypse sighed, “Lt. Colonel! You just can’t do that to us. What was it?” He stood up and walked down the hallway, and saw a body being hung by a rope from the ceiling, some jail captive in uniform with shackles on ankles and wrists. Leon shot it four times in the torso, but he was already dead long ago. Apocalypse held the vomit from his stomach and walked past it, which then he smashed his katana against another metal object, as a loud Clang echoed from it, and sparks flew briefly. Apocalypse then stepped back and smashed metal with metal again, but stayed in one spot this time, pushing his blade against whatever was attacking him. Bryars and Leon narrowed their eyes and pushed the dead carcass out of their way and saw who Apocalypse was grinding his katana against, a kid in a Military uniform who was a little younger than all of them. Leon lowered both his pistols and Bryars lowered his katana also. “Bosco, drop your weapon, that’s Lt. Apocalypse!” Bryars commanded, as Leon shined his flashlight at the side of Apocalypse’s rock-hard face. Bosco gasped and stepped back, but still held his weapon, trembling. His sword shook as much as he was. He pointed the blade away from the group and bowed heavily, “I-I-I’M SO SORRY!!!” “It’s alright. Least you’re still alive, next time use some psynergy or something to alert us to find you around here, we thought you were dead.” Bryars said, seeing the state of shock Bosco was in, he was barley strong enough to stand on his two feet. Blood spatter was on his face and clothes too, “You ok there?” Leon asked, pointing out the red. Bosco looked at it, then quickly and nervously shook his head, “N-No. I mean yes, it’s n-not mine…” “Shit, you killed a guy!?” Apocalypse asked, surprised. Bosco nervously looked behind his back, shivering, “I-I dunno…I just I…hid behind there and…a-and then h-he came and I hit him w-when he wasn’t lookin’…” “Little brat, you won’t get away with that!” A voice yelled down the dark hall, and Leon immediately aimed his guns above Bosco’s shoulder, “Kid, get down, now!” His body was submerged in psynergy waves as he shot both his pistols down the hallway, each shot giving off a little spark of light from Leon’s pistols. He then stopped, still using psynergy. As he squinted his eyes, Bryars looked at him, “Sir, did you hit?” “He’s not hurt.” Leon said, “It’s Zephyr, here he comes!” Bryars heard the noise of psynergy being casted from the other side of the hallway and he immediately put both his hands out, palms facing out. A large blue barrier stuck out in front of the four, as several large spires ripped out from the earth and collided into the blue barrier, which barley withstood the earth attack. Zephyr could be heard down the hallway, “My, my! So the Military has another Wind Adept, one who can read minds! Not bad, but my mind won’t be so easy to break into fully!” “I wouldn’t want to go that far into your twisted mind.” Leon said, “Although I’d really like to know how Bosco, a new-recruit and not yet fully-trained member of the Military, managed to strike at and successfully hit the all-powerful sub-leader of Anti-Boon!” He looked back at Bosco, “No offence, kid.” “None taken.” “Not like I didn’t heal myself afterwards.” Zephyr yelled, “That brat is going to get what he deserves. Although, he ran away right after he struck at me, which is supposed to begin a fight! That classifies himself as a boon, and I’ll just have to get him!” “Well, that sure is one creepy stalker I wouldn’t want on my list.” Apocalypse said, then tried adjusting his eyesight at the darkness in front of him by squinting his eyes. It didn’t help, “Well, if you can’t see him, just blow up all the crap in his area!” “Taste the pain! Ragnarok!” Apocalypse’s body was flooded with psynergy waves, which he then transferred to his own katana, and swung it at the air in a crushing swing. Several meters away, his katana was shown like a spot-light, and crashed down, apparently onto a jail wall. The attack was so powerful it ripped through the cement and brick wall like it was thin paper. Zephyr’s shadow could be seen in the newly-ripped hole in the wall, which was about four times the size of Zephyr, both height and width. Zephyr waved at them, “Bye-bye! Thanks for the brilliant exit!” Zephyr ran out of the hole, leaving the four Military members baffled, “Dammit! After him!” Leon yelled, as the four ran as fast as they could, with the exception of Bosco, who just…followed nervously. When they exited the jail via Apocalypse’s accidental hole-in-the-wall, they spun around to their left and now noticed they were in front of the Military’s parking lot. But that wasn’t the big deal; it was Zephyr standing before them all, arms crossed over, snickering. He had reason to smile, he had five friends with him, all aiming fire-arms at the four Military members. Bryars cursed as the four slowly raised their hands up in the air. Zephyr gave a hearty laugh, “Boons never prevail!” |
