Even if there's a minute chance this machine could destroy the entire world, it's not worth the risk, simply for the case of science. The thing about science is that it's always evolving and disproving itself. Why not wait until it's fool-proof? They're saying that this won't happen, and I don't think I read anywhere in any article that they gave us the probability of OHGODWEREALLGONNADIE to happen, so it sounds safe. But when humans play God, there's really not many good things that can happen.
