That's what I thought I saw, though, that it hadn't happened yet. Hence why my original thought given the potential consequences was "hell no." Why even take that chance, regardless of how small it is? This isn't a trivial matter -- this is all known life in the universe going splat, see ya later, thanks for the ride into the halo of darkness.

It's not that scientists think the chances of destroying the world are small. It's that they think they're nonexistent. Everyone's just making a big deal out of it because of the sharp increase in anti-intellectualism. No one wants to trust experts for some reason.

The moral of the story is this: No scientist will tell you that a black hole could be created by forcing two subatomic particles to collide with high energy. A journalist might, because apocalyptic stories seem to be all the rage, but that doesn't make it true.
