That's the idea - now units like Edward don't have advantages over otehrs so it just boils down to statistics, which makes the stats the most important thing in the game again.
I said this earlier, but no unit has an general advantage. Edward (thats the shitty sword dude, right?) may have been a good choice against Axes, but what about Lances? WTA works both ways.

It increases the strategic options in the game.

And the game being pure-stats is boring. Might as well play the game by simply rolling a bunch of RNGs at the beginning, look at them, and imagine units moving around, its faster that way.
