Some people play games and get nothing out of it. Others play games and listen to the stories and do get something out of it. It depends on the person. It has nothing to do with the games themselves in my opinion. |

Not Waving but Drowning Nobody heard him, the dead man, But still he lay moaning: I was much further out than you thought And not waving but drowning. Poor chap, he always loved larking And now he's dead It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way, They said. Oh, no no no, it was too cold always (Still the dead one lay moaning) I was much too far out all my life And not waving but drowning. -Stevie Smith | |

You can play as many games as you want unless it starts to interfere in school work. With me, I learn about the games, how they are made and worked on. Same goes for computers, I lvoe to open a computer and look at it. I do have to admit though that my actions are a bit obsessive, and it did get in the way of my work at one point. Games that are strategetic are vey good for a child. Usually kids learn more through graphics and if they are involved. games like age of empires and mythology games are very influencial. Role play games can also teach you a bit. Anything that makes you think more than button mashing is good for a child as much as games can be. I think they should start making really hard games, for all consels. wheee |

You can only get so much knowledge out of playing any type of game. And then they're useless only-bad-for-you entertainment. There are many studies that will say video games raise your IQ, but they usually never say how much it lowers your social interaction skills. |

Yes and therefore, like all things, there must be a balance. Studying should be any student's first priority. An educated person doesn't just help himself but it helps the world. Children must learn that at a young age, then be allowed to play games. |

Video gaming is bad under two situations. 1. It makes the kid an antisocial loser who rarely sees daylight. 2. It endorses violence and/or drugs, sex, and terrorism in a good light.(coughGTAcough) Well violence is okay as long as they put it in an unrealistic context. If you are playing as a Jedi Knight or James Bond, clearly the kid isn't growing up to be a secret agent or a Jedi Master. As long as the above two are controlled, I see no reason to hate it. Unless it interferes with their schoolwork. |

Well...I play video games a lot....and my grades are pretty good. But then in the 8th grade, I would bring my GameBoy to school, so I failed most of my classes....( As you can tell I failed English pretty badly )... And just because you play too many games doesn't mean your anti-social. |

Ha ha. Well I actually became more social after going on forums. I can be rather shy around people I don't know, but over this past year I've noticed that I'm more outgoing since I've been talking on the computer. But I still think it's the person and their self control, not the video game. |

As for violence in Video Games, violence, even in a realistic context, itn't necessarily bad. But games like that need only be played by those who can understants its just a game. For example, I'm 19, I can play GTA, enjoy it, and then not go murder people in the street, rob stores, etc etc, because I understand that GTA is simply a game, that its fiction. Younger children would be more impressionable, and Parents should keep them away from games like that. And Age of Empires 2 passed first semester World History for me

Those games can be as violent as they want, they can be about terrorists but seriously a kid doesn't become a terrorist by playing a game that promotes it. Smart kids know where to tell the difference and choose what is right and wrong. |

Without Pokemon, I would never have known what 'Leer' meant. Thank you video games. But seriously, I probably spit out knowledge that I first learned in video games that I apply in real life without realizing it. |

The greatest violence by video games isn't impressions that violence is okay. it's normally, "Let's play James Bond! Let me get my dad's pistol!" or "Let's play Fianl Fantasy! You can be Cloud; take this kicthen knife!" |

Well if a kid is really that stupid then that's just sad. I babysit and I have never met a child that dumb. Anyway it's the parents fault for letting a child that young play those video games. They're not really appropriate for children under 12 at least. At kids that age don't say "Hey let's play James Bond". They have labels that say T and M for reasons. Just like movies. Parents generally don't let their 7 year old watch R rated movies. |

Exactly, it is not the games fault, it is the PARENTS. It's fun to watch how mother's go flat out apeshit when it comes to violent video games, and how it will completely ruin their children. They can give any excuse they want to, it still all points to them being the complete and utter moron. You buy a game you don't know about for your child? He shoots his friend and sends him to the hospital? Look at the goddamned label, it is there for a reason. But I've also seen defenses to that like "Sometimes they're wrong." No, they are not wrong in the least, unless you are trailor trash and can't read too well, the offensive content is written in a nice little list for everyone to see. "Oh my child has a mental disorder." Still your fault, dumbass, you let them play it. I could go on about all kinds of scenarios, but I won't, too lazy to. [/rant]. |
