Has anyone tried making a patch..

To try to balance the characters out/ boost some of the weaker ones? Because this game has a massive number of cool and fun characters, but I don't use half of them because they flat out suck =/

So I decided to make a balancing patch. I plan to balance out stats, weapons, maybe Caps and Bonuses, and other stuff. But the main thing is I want the Fire Emblem community to guide me along, and tell me it's fine, and stop me when something needs minor tweaking or massive change. I've had this up at GHEB for awhile, but the members there care less and less about Fire Emblem nowadays, and I figured since I joined her, I might aswell bring the topic here, since there's a lot more members to criticize and help me out.

Well, this is what I got so far (Note, I'm only doing groups of characters at a time, like how I'm only doing Cavs now. I'll do prepromotes all together after I finished with unpromoted characters)

As you can see, Alan is still the power cav, Lance is still speed and skill, and Treck is still defense and hp. But Noah.. At first I though about making him have good speed and great luck, but I trashed that idea quick. Now I'm thinking of making him completely average.. It seems like he'd be a lot of fun to use.. But that's why I like the public's opinion.

I calculated their Average stats, although I rounded down to one decimal place. (i.e 31.75 = 31.7). Not sure if that was a smart idea but meh >>;

Aren't Noah and Treck a bit underleveled for when you get them?

Maybe you should raise their level and stats because of that to make them more balanced?

Yeah, I don't know why I started them as level 4.

Then again, Sue came at level 1 a map before them IIRC.

Yeah... they may be comparable statwise to the first Cavalier duo you get now, but Alan and Lance still have a few chapters on them. >>

Well, to be honest, I personally wouldn't like a balanced game. What fun is any strategy RPG where each and every character is virtually just as strong and just as useful?

That's your opinion.

What fun is agame in which every single character has the same amount of total stats and is just as good and just as useful? It basically means that you'd just end up using the first characters over and over again, since training later ones would be unnecessary because they would end up the same anyway.

I like the fact that there are average characters, bad characters and godly characters, as well as everything in between. You can make the game more challenging or completely pwn the enemy, your choice. It's also fun when you use a bad character and he suddenly ends up godly for you.

That's my opinion. I'm not promoting everything.

I'd understand low Hp and high speed, skill and luck.. but High strength, too?

I like where you're coming at though. Noah being frail but dodgy.

You fail to see the situation. Simply because two characters are balanced does not mean they are the same unit. Not even close. A Sage and a Paladin can be roughly equal in terms of usefulness, but have entirely different stats, supports, class, weapons, etc.

With the unbalanced units you have units that are never worth using. Weak. The biggest improvement of balancing everything is to eliminate such dead weight.

Hell no. Are you kidding? 20/10 Noah with the stats I gave:

38.0 Hp
24.1 Str(factoring the cap it would probably be a bit lower)
25.0 Skl
25 Spd*(again, factoring the cap it would be lower)
16 Luck
10.4 Def
6.2 Res
12 Con

Godly offense but leaving something to be desired on the defense. He has the Hp and Def of a mage character.

Give him a bit more Str and Spd in base stats, and it’s fine. Though, really, just do whatever you want, it’s your patch.

Some people LIKE dead weight. Just because everything is perfect for ranked runs and for logic, doesn't make it perfect for every player. That is all I am saying. I also clearly stated it was my opinion.

We should probably stop hogging this topic now, since I don't mean to annoy Spitfire...
